How to Wash Your Hands Properly & How to Use Antibacterial Gel

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Stonewall Kitchen Antibacterial Hand Gel, Grapefruit Thyme, 4-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6)

I’m sure you think you know the answer to, “How do you wash your hands?” but considering H1N1/Swine Flu and the normal Flu…it’s time for a teensy tiny little refresher. Because, do you know the best way to wash your hands? It’s how you wash your hands that is more important than what you wash your hands with. The technique is where you make it or break it.

Stonewall Kitchen Antibacterial Hand Gel, Grapefruit Thyme, 4-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6) Buy in bulk to save money. This has a positive review on Amazon in terms of scent and in terms of not drying your hands.

The Best Hand Washing Technique

And what IS the best way to wash your hands – technique wise? It’s all about timing. You need to get those scrubbly bubbles going for at least 20 seconds. I’d guess most people usually only wash their hands for about 10 seconds. The best way to know if you’re doing your full 20 seconds of hand washing is to sing the ABC song or to sing the ‘Happy Birthday’ song twice. (Hey, it can be yo ... Read More

Online Shopping at “Anique Michelle” (Discount Code for Readers!)

vest on sale

I was recently told about a great online shop called Anique Michelle, which features items that are both stylish and affordable. Nothing in the shop is over $60.00 – that’s what we like to hear! The owner of the shop, Anique, says, “I am very passionate that style doesn’t have to cost a lot and it is my goal with Anique Michelle to provide stylish clothing, jewelry and accessories at an affordable price.” And while many people claim they want to do this, Anique actually does.

If you don’t have access to an H&M (which has stylish items at low prices) then this is your next best bet! And in fact, since so many people do have access to an H&M store, and we want unique items – this is actually your er, first best bet.

All items from this online boutique are shipped out within two days of receiving the order, and the shipping time is usually 2-5 days. The packaging is supposedly awesome because it comes in a wine-colored mesh bag with a thank you gift of ring pops or a candy necklace/bracelet. You won’t need to worry about cute Christmas gift wrapping if you order from here.

Because Anique knows that she’s smart readers like good deals, she has generously provided a discount code ... Read More

Style Inspirations! Whitney Port’s Silver Party Look

silver dresses on sale

I was watching The City on MTV.com the other night and Whitney Port was in an outfit I LOVED. To recreate the look all you need is a silver dress, pearl earrings, pink lipstick, and black nail polish. The beauty products are easier to find, but you can shop around for the silver dress and pearl earrings. I did some shopping online for you and now I’ll share with you what I found. The thing about the pearl earrings that’s important is that they have a little more to them than just being pearl earrings. You’ll see what I mean.

Look Thinner with Colorblock Dresses and Colorblock Skirts

colorblock dresses on sale

The use of colorblock in clothing is genius. It can really trick the eye into making you look a lot more thin and shapely than you are. I was realizing this the other day when Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) was wearing a colorblock dress on Gossip Girl and it made her waist look so nipped and fit. When you type or say colorblocking enough times, it starts looking and sounding weird. But the actual color blocking effect? It’s genius!

How does colorblocking work? Visual magic! It uses blocks of color to shape you. As you know, white looks larger and black makes things look smaller. But more than that, you can actually sculpt the form using wide lines or thin lines of color down the middle of a dress. Be smart: color block!

sweaterdresses on sale

I love sweater dresses. But sweaters are expensive. And dresses are expensive. So much sweater dresses are – you must be a genius because you guessed it – expensive. But I worked to find you sweater dresses on sale for under $100.

Sweater dresses for fall are perfect to wear all the time. You can also wear them for winter, these sweater dresses are great with boots and tights.  Sweater dresses and tights? Love it. Sweater dresses and boots? Love it.

Victoria’s Secret is loaded with sweater dresses, but most of them are 1) Way too form fitting/sexy to want to wear without being self-conscious, 2) Way too expensive! This is why Victoria’s Secret Sweater Dresses are mostly a no-go for me. However I did find one that I like a lot and included down below, it’s a gorgeous chocolate brown color and looks like it would move well. It has enough detail to make it interesting, but it’s all in a solid color so you can layer it with accessories like crazy (rings, tights, boots, hats, whatever).

Wake Up with Orange Shower Gels

red flower orange

Oranges by audreyjm529 on Flickr.

We drink orange juice in the morning out of habit. But it might actually have more to it than that. That good ol’ Vitamin C is so important. And why is VC so good? Lots of studies show it can improve mental clarity and even your mood. Citrus fruits wake up your mind. They can also wake up your body. And even the aroma of a citrus fruit will work.

I hate waking up early, but the one thing I know to do is drag myself into a hot shower right away. The one thing I’ve learned that can help me from just standing there under the water and ‘thinking’ is to use scented bodywash. Because otherwise I seriously will stand there for FAR too long, procrastinating even on washing my hair. It always reminds me of a scene from Family Ties where the youngest blonde daughter gets yelled at for taking such long showers and she announces, “That’s when I THINK!” I can relate.

How to Wear Shoe Boots (And Five Shoe Booties Under $100)

Buckled Zipper Booties from Charlotte Russe $20

Shoe Booties by kudumomo on Flickr

When it comes to shoes for fall 09, booties are still hot. Whether you call them a shoebooty or shoe bootie (or ankle boots), they’re cute. Calling them “booties” reminds me of the little booties that babies wear, but no one seems to mind. So, what shoe boots are cute for right now? And, even more importantly, let’s discuss how to wear shoe boots. Because the worst thing is to buy something great and then have no idea what to do with it besides look at it longingly in your closet.

June of JuneLin.com has posted pictures of booties seen on the runways for Hermes, J Mendel, and Marc Jacobs. Those shoes are BANANAS, as Rachel Zoe would say. But seriously, I PINE, I YEARN! And yet, I still can’t buy them because then I would have no where to live… And now I feel like I need to reference that Sex and the City joke that Carrie Bradshaw makes about how… ‘I will ... Urban Outfit Discount: Urban Outfitters Dresses on Sale!

urban outfitters dresses on sale

Urban Outfitters makes great, chic clothing for teens and people in their 20′s. If you aren’t sure of Urban Outfit locations, you can always go to their website Urbn.com. The stores are full of funky jewelry, large leather handbags with fringe, candles that smell like papayas, neon pink alarm clocks shaped like owls, and the kind of clothing that instantly makes you feel more hip. Most urbn outfit dresses are upwards of $60.00, but there is a sale going on right now where tons and tons of dresses are on sale. That seems like a good occasion for shopping – or at least a good occasion to take a look and see what they have.

A lot of these dresses can be worn in the fall as long as you wear some textured tights and a cardigan over them (maybe even a wool hat). Others you may want simply because next Spring similar dresses will be on sale for $60.00 again, and you’ll have missed out on a deal. (Regret sucks, and I feel like I ALWAYS learn this the hard way.)

Bargain News! BCBG on Sale

BGCG Max Azria from hyku on Flickr

BGCG Max Azria from hyku on Flickr

I’ve loved BCBG from even before what I knew much about the line. Max Azria has a daughter and her bedroom was featured in Seventeen Magazine when I was a teen who got that magazine. All of her clothing was mostly black and white, organized in a huge closet. And her room was mostly all white, except her Dad had encouraged her to paint her bedroom walls yellow… Anyway – I just remember loving her room and wishing my Dad was also a fashion designer. Which…would be hilarious because his idea of style is changing into clean jeans. Cue an eye roll here.

These days, BCBG Max Azria dresses are sought after for their style and fit. I really wish there was a BCBG Max Azria outlet near me, but alas there is not. But, shopping online has perks – like scouring for BCBG sale items!

I recommend shopping for items that you really love, don’t just buy something because it’s on sale. Classic pieces w ... Read More
