It's time to dress like Selena Gomez!

It's time to dress like Selena Gomez!

I’ll admit it you guys – I’m not young enough to have become a major fan of Selena Gomez. In college I used to watch Lizzie Maguire with Hilary Duff, but I haven’t watched many Disney shows since then. But Selena Gomez seems like a total sweetheart, and a bunch of you have searched for her – so I decided I’d make a post about dressing like one of her recent 2010 outfits. This one is sweet and pretty. And who doesn’t like to look sweet and pretty? (Bad guys in Western movies, Lady Gaga, and my Manhattan-traipsing sister…)If you promise not to call me old, I promise to make this post super stylish.

What I picked were items that are AFFORDABLE. You can dress like Selena Gomez for less on, pretties! I found a great white skirt ... Read More

How to Dress Like Nina Dobrev in The Vampire Diaries

Ready to dress like Nina Dobrev?

Ready to dress like Nina Dobrev?

Am I immune to the unmistakable charm of The Vampire Diaries? Nu uh! I love that friggin show. And Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert on the show is always looking beautiful. In The Vampire Diaries season 2 promo pictures, Dobrev is looking fiercely beautiful and strong.

The accessories I can’t provide you with are two hunky vampire brothers to hold your hands, or a gracefully aging antique home with sunlight gently filtering in to give you a spotlight. Sorry, but you’ll have to somehow create that on your own! Still, you can harness the energy and feeling of standing in the sunlight, posing “just-so” and having two Salvatore brothers lusting after you. Anything is possible.

For this dress, you’re looking for a gold (or metallic) br ... Read More

Dress like Demi Lovato for Less

dress like demi lovato

Demi Lovato showed up looking beautiful to the ABC/Disney Summer Press Junket this year. I found a great, inexpensive black bandage skirt that you can wear several times over for many different looks. I really like this particular gray top (you can tuck or untuck it for this look) with the little bit of patterned detail it has. The idea is that because the skirt is so streamlined and tight, the top is billowy and loose. Don’t make the mistake of getting a fitted V-neck gray T-shirt and thinking it will work just as well. Once you’ve tucked in this top, you can pull it out a bit (Demi’s shirt is pulled out at the front part of both sides of her hips. It won’t make your hips look larger becuase the skirt is following the curve of them. If you’re self-conscious, you don’t have to tuck the shirt in at all.)

Demi paired her outfit with some bangles and ... Read More

Dress like Selena Gomez!

Dress like Selena Gomez!

This was a really cute outfit that Selena Gomez wore to the 2010 Teen Choice Awards. She has a silky white dress with a boatneck neckline, and slit arms. (The heaviness of the sleeves is balanced by the shortness of the dress.) For extra fun, and because she IS young, the dress is backless.

Her shoes are like little woven baskets, and have a bit of a tribal feel. White she has no nail polish on her toenails (because nude on nude legs elongates you) she has dark purple nail polish on her hands. With a white clutch, and silver ring (on the middle finger), smokey eye makeup, nude gloss and dangly silver earrings, the look is both youthful and glam. Her hair has an extra deep and dramatic part, but then it’s made more fun with some tousled curls. (You can use a curling iron to recreate that look.)

It was hard to find a white dress with all of the right check-marks, but I fond a couple different options. The shoes were easier to find, and I found two different pairs that look like replica’s.

We love Courtney Cox, and it’s fabulous to see her on the cover of Instyle’s August 2010 issue.

Kristen Bell Hairstyles 2010: Funky Braids

Monday, July 26th, 2010

kristen bell hairstyles 2010

We loved Kristen Bell‘s hairstyle at the recent “The Darker Side of Green” event. It’s a mixture of French braiding, regular braiding, and pigtails. But the most important thing to remember is that it’s a fun, slightly-messy look. So, it’s okay if you mess it up, or it looks different on you. What you’ll need are some bobby pins, elastic hair wraps, and hair spray.

How to achieve this look: Part your hair, and grab 1/3 of this hair from the crown and begin braiding it. Stop when you get down to above the nape of your neck, and incorporate it into a larger braid, anchoring both braids to the side of your neck. Use the elastic band at the end of this braid. Bo back with bobby pins to secure both braids, and also take your loose hair and twirl it loosly around your face, securing with a pin.

How to Dress like Gwyneth Paltrow on the Vogue Cover (Posh, but much more Casual!)

Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover of Vogue / Ph: VOGUE

What happens when you take the uber posh Gwyneth Paltrow and get her to look a little less polished? It makes her look stunning. Seriously, check out the Vogue Cover above. The royal blue dress is complimented by minimal makeup, pink lips, unfussy hair, and only one summer white accessory. This is easily a look you can copy for your everyday use. And it works super great if you happen to have blue eyes like Gwyneth.

The royal blue reminds us of the ocean, and somehow this entire look seems very Nautical without being super on theme.

Make sure the dress is slinky and not too form-fitting or uncomfortable. If it has a bit of shine, that will lend to the effect of being a water goddess. And who doesn’t want to be one of those?

Jessica Biel on the cover of Glamour UK

Jessica Biel graces the cover of Glamour UK’s cover for August 2010. She wears a nude tank top with ostrich skirt that is belted to divide the feathers. (It is possible this is a dress, not two pieces.)

“I’m not a perfect person who doesn’t mess up, eat bad, not work out–I do all those things,” Biel tells Glamour UK. “When I’m working and I eat healthily all week, I then give myself one day–usually Sunday–when I just eat what I want. You have to, otherwise your mind goes a little nutso.” – Jessica Biel, Glamour UK August 2010

Dakota Fanning on the cover of Marie Claire

Dakota Fanning is the Cover Girl for Marie Claire this August. She looks grown up, and her words are backing her up on that fact.

“When you start out young, people get really attached to who you are at 6 years old. I hope that The Runaways was kind of a moment to be like, ‘You know, I’m not that young little girl anymore, but I’m still not all grown up, either.” – Dakota Fanning, Marie Claire 2010

Lucy Hale is the adorable new star of ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars. When we saw her in OK! Magazine, there was one look that particularly seemed to speak to us. It’s elegant, but a few earthy details and some distressed jeans keep the look from being too proper or fussy.

An easy way to achieve the basic look is to use any camisole or strapless tank top that is free of too many details, and then attach any floral brooch. Taking any pin and attaching it to a shirt is a great way to update your wardrobe for free.
