Father’s Day Gift Ideas: Ghost Pepper Cube for those who DARE
It’s time to review something that isn’t mainly for me, my female family members, or female friends! It’s time to review something SPICY. In fact, I went all the way into the Danger Zone and have brought to you guys the GHOST PEPPER (the hottest chilli pepper in the world) aka the Bhut Jolokia pepper. I received the Ghost Cube from Bhut Pepper. The packaging isn’t girly at all, but I still adore it because it’s so unique and I love the spooky/comical illustrated ghost pepper.
The maker of this company creates small batches of the products and brings them to us from Brooklyn, New York – but he got the idea while living in the BBQ-heavy Kansas City.
The cube fits in the palm of my hand, but it’s a reminder that a little of the Ghost Pepper will go a long way. It’s nothing you want to wave around and shove into your mouth like it was candy. I got this with my Dad in mind, since he loves spicy foods. I figured that this cool find would impress him, and then he could try to impress us by making dinner – hehe.
Ghost Cube Includes:
1 ghost packet — includes 1 dried ghost chili
1 oz bottle of ghost powder
10g tin crushed ghost pepper flakes
1oz packet of spicy watermelon candy
1 recipe/fact cards
cube size: 4″ x 3″ x 3″
Dad likes hot things, and he found this to be a nice sensation – not TOO hot if you use it in the right amounts. It’s a fun kick, he just wishes my Mom would get on board and he could use it in large batches of sauces instead of mostly individual servings. Sorry, Dad, not everyone likes it hot!
The Dried Chillies are a great introduction to the Ghost Pepper. You get one dried chilli in a packet, and you can use it in many ways – a recipe card (with plenty of ideas) is included. You can also just be creative and make up your own recipes.
You can add the Ghost Powder to BBQ rubs, marinades for a kick, curries, salsa (my Dad is always making salsa and it tastes so much better than anything you can buy at the store) sauces or even into burgers. Dad also liked using this in his BBQ sauce, which I was too chicken to try.
The Ghost Pepper Bumps (Flakes)are a nice way of adding a small, quick dash of color and flavor to any of the same, even soups, dips and salads (like a steak salad with avocado and onion.) You can put it on pizza just like you would add red pepper flakes. My Dad liked this on his baked potato.
DESSERT?! YES. The Spicy Watermelon Candy reminds me of the chilli-covered lollipops we’d get in Spanish class. The sweetness of the watermelon candy acts against the hot ghost pepper, making it a really fun treat for those who dare! My Dad really did like these, and said it was a sweet treat that had sounded much more intimidating than it was. The people who make this really know how to balance everything juuuust right.
Any of these make great father’s day gift ideas. You really get the idea that this is a special item, something you went out of your way to present your father with. He’ll appreciate that. And if he likes to experiment in the kitchen, he’ll adore it all that much more.
