Dr. Scholl’s Massaging Gel Inserts Review: ALMOST Perfect, Not Quite

by on Monday, June 4th, 2012

I’m high on endorphins, so you’d think that would bias this Dr. Scholls Massaging Gel Inserts review. But it won’t. Because I both love and hate this product in the same breathe. I think it’s wonderful, and I think there are lots of ways it is poorly designed. And it also caused my shoes (which neverĀ  bother me) to have re-aligned themselves and given me a blister on my inner right ankle.

What’s Good:

They feel SO comfortable. And I know that they will reduce any foot pain. I’d wear these to a day at the museum or the zoo. Or if I worked on my feet all day. They should be mandatory for everyone. They’re so great. They just aren’t perfect yet.

What’s Bad:

You have to cut (or trim) it to the proper shoe size. While this is technically a great way to have a one-size-fits all product, I did not feel this was clearly labeled (it was on the packaging that I tore off to get to the product – meaning I had to go into the trash… yea.) For me, that wasn’t a huge deal. (You do need sharp scissors.) But I think of my Grandma (may she rest in peace) who used to always buy random stuff like this for herself and others. She would have bought this. And she would have had a lot of trouble figuring out what to do, and even cutting them. So I think a warning of that should be on the front of the packaging, along with inside. (And of course, for goofs like me, you have to be careful not to cut it too small because then you’re screwed.)

If you have a wide width foot (or a narrow foot) the insert will not fit perfectly.

Every time you put your shoes on, these pads have to be re-aligned. And they don’t want to stay in place. I’m going to have to keep fiddling with them, maybe use double sided stick tape inside my shoe. But that might mess up how the product works. Basically, these won’t stay where I put them and that’s a problem.

You have to wear them with socks, which is annoying for the summer but not a deal breaker.

Conclusion

I think the company should find a way to make these fit in your shoe without moving around. I’d pay more for this product, and encourage others to buy it, if I knew it would work better. I think this is a great idea, and they are super comfortable.
