My Dad wears black socks M-F, and when they start getting worn thin on the soles he won’t always throw them out like he should. This drives me crazy when I see it. When socks are not working anymore, you need to ditch them and get new ones.
When the opportunity arose to do a review with BlackSocks.com there was no question in my mind that I wanted my Dad to do it. No one that I know wears more black socks than he does.
The Best Selling Men’s Calf Socks in Black
Merino Wool Dress Socks from Blacksocks
What is the site about?
Well, duh, they’re about black socks. They’ve been in business 12+ years, putting socks on 60,000 men in 75 countries. That’s three million socks that they’ve delivered. Clearly, they’re doing something right. They’re not just getting this feature on ShesSmart.com, but also The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Business Week, Details, CBS News, and NPR.
They offer a Sockscription, which is cool. Plus, there’s Smarter Socks. You ca use an App to track where every sock is (none shall be eaten by the washer, muahaha!) and also know if they are as black as they should be. Now this isn’t for everyone. My Dad? Not someone who cares too much. But there are plenty of guys out there who are very into having everything being orderly and up-to-date. You know the type, the one who rushes out for the latest iPhone every time?
So, what did he think of the socks he got? Well, for the short review as he first told me: he liked them. Of course, then I had to ask some questions to make him think more about why he liked them. They were both comfortable and both dressy. They were also both thin enough for his dress shoes. The Merino Wool Dress Socks are a bit softer and a notch more fancy than the Calf Socks. They’re perfect for the office or a night out, really.
Both are ribbed. And I went googling “why are socks ribbed”? What I found out is that it’s no accident, socks are ribbed to provide more stretch. This make them more comfortable. …I know, I know, it’s such a simple thing that we never think about! A ribbed sock = fits better.
Something he really liked was the packaging of how the socks arrived. I was going to laugh and roll my eyes at this feature, but he kept imploring me this was a key feature. With most socks that you get, opening them is a pain with the plastic stuff you have to cut off carefully. These simply unfold and are not stuck together in any way. What this says to me is that BlackSocks.com has though about everything to make this a perfect sock experience. For a white collar guy who wears black socks every day, this would be a very thoughtful and helpful gift.
While Dad doesn’t care, I think it’s very cool that these are both made in Milan, Italy. They’re made of Pima Cotton which is the cashmere version of cotton.
I am also glad to read that they’re hypoallergenic, and use no harmful substances in being created.
Dad thought these were great quality socks. You shouldn’t have to think too much about your socks. These will always be great.
