Marilyn Monroe Fashion for Parties

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

I’ve put together two party looks for a fun, flirty party this winter 09. Each look was inspired by glamor, kind of like Marilyn Monroe. But updated for a modern party girl who likes the golden age of Hollywood. You’ll see that I paired a satin corset (one is a pleated corset and one is a ruched corset but both are from Charlotte Russe!) with a fun black skirt. One black skirt is a mesh tiered number by Forever 21, and the other is a bubble skirt from Forever 21. Each look got a faux fur shrug, a tiara element (either an actual tiara or a clip for the hair with a tiara symbol), nail polish and black liquid eyeliner.

Black liquid eyeliner is great for a glamorous look, especially for parties. Singer Taylor Swift is always using black eyeliner (winged just a bit out on the edges) on just the tops of her eyelids. It really brings some definition to your eyes. And as always, everything in this look is under $100.00!

cuticle cream

It might sound good enough to eat, but the Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream by Burt’s Bees is not edible. It does smell really incredible, though. Delicious, actually. Beware! Luckily, I gave in to an impulse buy (sometimes these are very disappointing!) and discovered this cuticle cream.

The great thing is that it’s not JUST cuticle cream. You can use this anywhere you need some extra moisture. It’s great for any dry patches on your skin, or the areas that tend to be driest on your skin like your elbows and ankles. This stuff absolutely WORKS. I slather it on before bed and when I wake up my cuticles feel perfectly smooth (bye hangnails!), as does any skin I applied it to.  I can almost feel my skin drink the cream up and sigh happily, ‘aaaaah’.

I’d all but given up on finding a product that would really work to moisturize my cuticles, and I’m very surprised it ended up bei ... Read More

Fat Cat Kitty Hoots Big Mama's Scratchy Box Slim Purple

Sometimes you really have to put your pet before yourself. I mean, even in the ways you wouldn’t think to! See, I have a new piece of furniture and I really don’t want my cat scratching on it – and she already had tried. (Bad kitty!) One of the things I’ve bought for her before is one of those scratch boxes with the catnip you sprinkle on it. But that box was old news (all destroyed) so I needed a new one. Since I am one who shops smart, I look for the cheapest option that still looks decent. I thought I’d found it with a certain scratch box. And it even seemed better because this particular cat scratching box you could flip over and have used again. And I was sold by how the box was decorative and had little yellow tassels. The entire packaging, logo and branding process was so cute. Plus it was natural and recyclable and who doesn’t want eco-friendly pet ... Read More
