Books in every color of the rainbow. Photo by candiedwomanire on Flickr

Guess what? I utilize the library a whole heck of a lot. Seriously. I mean, I buy books (when I know I’ll want them and want to reread them) and DVDs (ditto) and a whole slew of things. I also have Netflix. But sometimes it’s great to just order a bunch of things and then have them all there for you when you go to the library. (I’m pretty sure every library has that function now.) Also, it always encourages me to be diverse in the things I pick. I get self-concious, and I don’t want a librarian judging me if I’m only getting a ton of DVDs to watch. So I always make a point to get a variety of things. And libraries offer lots of things. Music, Movies, Magazines, Books, Books on tape…

Reasons to use the library: You save money, you’ll try new things in terms of what you’ll watch and read, you’ll encourage yourself to read more, you’ll possibly m ... Read More

transformation soup

Books for Christmas make great gifts. This, of course, depends on the book. I’m going to share with you a list of the best books as gifts according to my list of books I’ve read and enjoyed, as well as what Amazon readers suggest. Because we’re always searching for good gift ideas, books seem like an easy solution. Keep in mind that a book you give as a Christmas gift should be a book that will be cherished and want to be re-read.

My personal book list recommendations:

Keeping the House by Ellen Baker. I think this is a wickedly compelling novel steeped in nostalgia and a little bit of mystery. ... Read More

kindle pictures

Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6″ Display, Global Wireless, Latest Generation) @ Amazon $259. The Amazon kindle is great because it’s as thin as a magazine but it can hold 1,5000 books (which is more than my bookcases hold). Apparently the kindle has no glare like most screens have, and it even has a super long battery life. Still, wouldn’t you miss holding the weight of a book? This has to be great for tech people or people who travel a lot.

Moon in my Room @ Amazon $18.69. This is a great Christmas gift for kids or teens. It comes with a remote control, an audio CD that gives you ... Read More

How to Wear Kimono Sleeve Sweaters

kimono sleeve sweaters

Kimono Sleeve Sweaters have caught my eye. As it gets colder you might think you’d have to rule them out of your wardrobe, huh? Wrong. For one, they’re great to wear to places where you know you’ll be getting overheated (or even at home if you’re always too hot). For two, if you pair a fitted henley shirt or long sleeved shirt under them, you can wear them through all of fall and winter.

Jewelry for kimono sweaters? Aside from pairing a kimono sleeve sweater with a henley top I believe you can totally go overboard with jewelry. It can be boho chic or boho luxe. Wear earrings for sure – the bigger the better. Bracelets are great if you’re not wearing the top under the kimono sweater, but otherwise I’d go without bracelets and focus on rings and then either statement necklaces or a bundle of tiny necklaces piled onto your neck.

What else do you wear with a kimono sweater? Right now skinny jeans and leggings are hot, and if you pair those with a kimono sweater those look great because it’s such a great balance of proportions. But you can wear jeans or pants of any kind, really. If you go for the skinny leg look you can show off your newest winter boots or shoebooties.

Why wear a kimono sweater? What I like about kimono sleeve sweaters is how comfy they are – theyR ... Read More

Hilary Swank Promotes Gray Nail Polish

Hilary Swank is swanky with Oprah. Photo from Oprah.com.

Hilary Swank was recently on The Oprah Winfrey Show and she wore the cutest outfit. It was a black blouse, black and white polka dot skirt, yellow belt, and for a final touch – gray nail polish. During the interview, Oprah noticed them. Hilary said she’d done them like that for Halloween, and she also got Oprah to admit that she didn’t so much love the color. Ha! Luckily these two have a report where it didn’t seem like Oprah was insulting Swank.

I think it depends on your skin tone for whether a gray nail polish will compliment you. No matter if you’re looking for a metallic nail polish, matte nail polish or sparkly nail polish – there’s a gray polish out there for you. The China Glaze polish color I’m listing is the one closest to the one Swank was wearing – it has an almost violet tint to it in the right light. If you’re not feeling gray, try silver nail polish. And if you hate it all? Be a rebel and go gold.

gifts for him

Urban Outfitters has a lot of great, silly items that make good Christmas gifts. So this is my list of  good gift ideas for the upcoming holiday season, using Urban Outfitters. Don’t fret (I know you hate to do that!), I also did a post for girls and more girl-centric gifts: Gifts for Her. Make sure to find a urban outfitters free shipping code & urban outfitters coupon code if you shop urbanoutfitters.com.

Well, it’s really hard to shop for guys. Seriously. What do you buy a guy for Christmas? Usually I have no clue. Which is why I’m on the hunt, early! Of course, these are gifts for guys in their teens/20’s/early 30’s – considering the store. They’re silly gifts, but guys often do like silly things. Usually I’m baffled because the only things guys like are super expensive things and it’s like – okay, but I can’t buy you a new Wii! Anyway! If you have to buy a present for a teenage boy? This is your go-to store for cheap Christmas gifts.

How to Wash Your Hands Properly & How to Use Antibacterial Gel

Stonewall Kitchen Antibacterial Hand Gel, Grapefruit Thyme, 4-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6)

I’m sure you think you know the answer to, “How do you wash your hands?” but considering H1N1/Swine Flu and the normal Flu…it’s time for a teensy tiny little refresher. Because, do you know the best way to wash your hands? It’s how you wash your hands that is more important than what you wash your hands with. The technique is where you make it or break it.

Stonewall Kitchen Antibacterial Hand Gel, Grapefruit Thyme, 4-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6) Buy in bulk to save money. This has a positive review on Amazon in terms of scent and in terms of not drying your hands.

The Best Hand Washing Technique

And what IS the best way to wash your hands – technique wise? It’s all about timing. You need to get those scrubbly bubbles going for at least 20 seconds. I’d guess most people usually only wash their hands for about 10 se ... Read More

Online Shopping at “Anique Michelle” (Discount Code for Readers!)

vest on sale

I was recently told about a great online shop called Anique Michelle, which features items that are both stylish and affordable. Nothing in the shop is over $60.00 – that’s what we like to hear! The owner of the shop, Anique, says, “I am very passionate that style doesn’t have to cost a lot and it is my goal with Anique Michelle to provide stylish clothing, jewelry and accessories at an affordable price.” And while many people claim they want to do this, Anique actually does.

If you don’t have access to an H&M (which has stylish items at low prices) then this is your next best bet! And in fact, since so many people do have access to an H&M store, and we want unique items – this is actually your er, first best bet. 😛

All items from this online boutique are shipped out within two days of receiving the order, and the shipping time is usually 2-5 days. The packaging is supposedly awesome because it comes in a wine-colored mesh bag with a thank you gift of ring pops or a candy necklace/bracelet. You won’t need to worry about cute Christmas gift wrapping if you order from here.

Because Anique knows that she’s smart readers like good deals, she has generously provided a discount code for you all to use, valid through the end of November so you can do early Christmas shopping. ... Read More
