There are some secrets and tipsĀ  that can help you better enjoy your time in a restaurant.

She’s smart, because she…

…is careful when trusting the waiter’s opinion. If you ask if a certain dish is good, they are not allowed to badmouth it even if they dislike it. Notice if they’re vague in their answer. I like to ask them what the most popular dishes are, or what they themselves like to order. After all, since they work there they must know what’s actually good.

…is cautious about the of soup of the day. The daily special or the soup of the day is sometimes because a restaurant has too much of something, or the expiration date is just about to arrive.

Steal Kate Beckinsale’s Haute Look

kate beckinsale

Kate, honey, I’m sure your husband* is a very nice man. But maybe help him out on the style front. Red cord pants with suede loafers? Not loving it. But I’m loving your look a hell of a lot. The elements are simple, and half of the magic must be in how shiny you got your hair to look. The mid-calf black boots are chunky and look fun to storm around in – even if you aren’t the storming type. The tight black pants are a super nice touch when paired with what looks like a basic black t-shirt and a gray cardigan that could be from anywhere, in any price range. All paired off with black sunglasses and fresh pink lip gloss, this look is perfection and easy to recreate. Hope you don’t mind if ... Read More

Be a Woman with Golden Mystique

short gold dress

I saw the below image on Vintage Aphrodite, and loved it as immediately as I love any cat that I see. Part of why I love this photo is because I have already crafted a back-story to this girl in the picture. For instance, she definitely owns a cat. Probably a short-furred black kitty that snubs everyone except her. She wears wing-ed out black eyeliner every day, and doesn’t own a single lipstick. She washes her hair every other day to both be eco-conscious and eliminate the amount of time she spends on perfecting her coif. People often see her in unusual vintage dresses with high collars. She keeps a tin of mints in her purse, and has a dollar bill clip from her Grandpa Otis. Of course, this is all just my guess – just an idea of a person from this picture.Ā  The site just calls her “The Woman with the Golden Dress“.

I’m Having an ‘Agate Moment’

agate necklaces

I’m having an agate moment. I’ve absolutely always been fascinated with agate – the sliced gem looks like a rainbow inside. And when there’s crystals there it’s actually because of a process of rotting – so the crystals are like decay – but, you know…pretty decay! My dentist has never had that comment about my teeth…although my teeth are okay… (I’m knocking on wood now.)

When I went on a Girl Scout retreat once (don’t look so shocked that I was a Scout!) there was a gift shop and I remember I bought agate slices for everyone in my family. I also remember that there was one that resembled a teardrop and I gave it to my Dad with a ridiculously scripted and emotional speech about how it represented how I was sorry for ever causing him pain in life. Lifetime movies are less sappy than me, yes. But even as a child I always wanted my life to have ‘movie moments’ so…that’s why I did that. And as for why I wear agate now? It’s obvs just because I have good style!

If you find yourself craving agate like me, there are a variety of ways to wear it. Buying an agate pendant is the cheapest way – and it’s easily strung on a cord or chain. The best part of that is that it sti ... Read More

Bow Heels that Won’t Break your Budget

black bow heels

Like many things in life, this post started with a small obsession. Hehe. You see, I saw a pair of Nanette Lepore heels that appealed to my romantic, classic style sensibility – yet did not (even a tiny bit) appeal to my budget. so I became dedicated to the cause of finding bow heels that were cute and significantly closer to what I would be willing to shell out. I succeeded! I found four pairs of bow heels that I liked, all under $100.

Making Maternity Clothes with Print Work for YOU!

fierce mama

Project Runway winner Christian Siriano has a new line called Fierce Mamas – which is, you guessed it – is a Maternity Collection. Price Point: $50.00-$200.00. Holy yipes! The line is available from the company Moody Mama. Seeing all of this got me thinking about maternity dresses, and how most maternity clothing stays away from prints. But I’m here to help you recognize when a print will work for you (whether you’re preggers or not)!

Pattern Tip #1: Variety & Vertical lines: This dress is the Stunning Charmeuse Dress/ Brushstroke Print and it retails for a whopping $165.00. Whether or not you go out to buy this dress (I wouldn’t, unless I was very well-off) I think it’s a nice shopping tip for Mommy’s to know that often, maternity wear doesn’t do pattern very well – avoid it. However, sometimes a piece has pattern that works. It’s just a matter of finding what does work. The pattern here is subtle enough, has variety and the brushstrokes are vertical in a slimming way (not that you need to look super slim when you’re preggo!).
