Right before the holidays, companies come out with their shiniest, best new gear. Here’s the low-down on the top five new gadgets that will come out for 2012. These are all perfect for holiday gift giving.

So, what’s hot to trot?

Stump Portable Tablet Stand – $24 – Stump WebsiteAmazon Link Why do I like it? Three separate viewing angles? I’m sold. Haha, okay not SO fast. But this is so necessary! It’s for use with your iPad or ereader. Perfect for watching Netflix while you’re working at your computer, bored on a flight, or reading recipes while you cook in the kitchen. This is available in five different colors, small enough to fit in your purse, and the base is weighted so it doesn’t wobble. The Wall Street Journal has given this high, high praise. Where’s Your Happy Place? Here’s One of Mine that Works

Ferris Bueller poster

I will admit this…begrudgingly… I’m a Type A, perfectionist who has a world of trouble trying to relax. It just seems impossible. I’m very high strung, and it makes me pretty unpleasant unless I actively try to combat my anxious feelings about everything in life. So, when it comes to CALMING DOWN, I look to my role model – the fictional character of Ferris Bueller. He knew how to live life. It’s pretty impossible to pick a favorite scene from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, but I’ve always loved how shamelessly Ferris faked sick, then sat outside in the sun with a tropical drink and his phone.

When I faked sick in high school I’d play the part even if no one was home, just in case I got caught not looking miserable. But do you know what good worries do? Nothing. I mean, they keep you vigilant and if life were like The Walking Dead, I’s probably want to stay pretty “on guard” like this. But as life its, without the zombie apocalypse, it’s really time for me to relax. As the movie says, “Leisure Rules.” So be a Ferris. My happy place is visualizing myself in Ferris’ backyard, with his attitude on life. Everything will be okay!

What’s your happy place?

Pink and Orange Earrings: You CAN Pull off this Color Combination!

pink and orange earrings

Orange and pink are not the easier color combination to make work. So it’s a challenge! It’s a She’s Smart first (like a Project Runway first, which it seems like they have every episode, thus defeating the impact…)

(I’m going to wax poetic for a moment, don’t mind me!) Like a brilliant sunset, pink and orange are colors that can be vibrant or meld together like a watercolor of warmth. They’re daring colors on their own, and even though I’m not a daring person, I think it’s okay to use them both at once – on occasion.

Stylish Friendship Bracelets by Ettika

stylish friendship bracelets

Mindy Kaling mentioned how cute this one Ettika Bracelet is (pictured top left on collage), and it inspired me to re-examine stylish friendship bracelets. See, I don’t believe in anything tacky or over the top. Fashionable and subtle? That’s my bag. And Ettika makes tons of bracelts – friendship and not – that are perfect to pile on your wrists and share with friends. My thought on friendship bracelets is that if you and your friend have the same kind/one in different colors, it totally counts. The only problem you have there is if your friend doesn’t jive with your style. Of course, Ettika offers all sorts of styles. Some are more romantic while others are more boho.

Jewelry Giveaway: Scarlett Garnet Necklace as seen on Project Runway!

jewelry giveaways

Hey guys! I’m running a fabulous jewelry giveaway with Scarlett Garnet Jewelry. You may have already seen some of their necklaces if you watch Project Runway! For all of the details head over to my TV site, Small Screen Scoop so you can enter. (Low entries right now! You have a great chance of winning!)  I wanted to make sure none of my She’s Smart ladies missed out on this. I specifically picked out which jewelry piece to give away, so you know that I think it’s damn stylish.

It’s a super long pendant piece you can wear over anything – sweaters, tank tops, etc. Very flexible in terms of how you want to style it. And it’ll work for those who are plus sized or have a large chest, since it’s so long and the pendant is large and has big impact.

P.F. Changs Frozen Meals Review: The Orange Chicken was Seriously Good

pf changs frozen meals review

P.F. Changs Frozen Meals have had me curious as I passed by the frozen food aisles in the grocery store, but I wasn’t sure if I should take the plunge. Sometimes it works out, and sometimes it doesn’t. (Remember how much I hated the TGI Fridays Frozen Skillet Meals? It was a huge waste of money.) But the @wegiveachuck twitter account encourages fans of NBC’s Chuck to support the commercial sponsors. And P.F. Changs has run a spot for their Frozen Meals during Chuck, before. So, I said, whatever, let’s DO this! AND IT WAS DELICIOUS.

I bought the P.F. Changs Orange Chicken Frozen Meal. It requires that you make rice on the side. But rice isn’t hard to make. And, I’m not sure if you’ll believe me, this Orange Chicken Meal was so good that it’s better than when I order my local Chinese food. The chicken was unbelievably tender, the vegetables were good, and the orange sauce was really sweet. I’m planning on buying this in the future for sure. I like to be a lazy cook, and frozen meals are easy for me.

Pretty Little Liars Halloween Episode Costumes – Copy Emily’s Fields Style

pretty little liars halloween episode costumes

While it’s hard to get around buying a cheesy costume, the accessories you use can be things that you have or buy that can be stylish and worn on days other than Halloween. Native American Jewelry is (almost) always really pretty. And you know we always love to focus on stylish halloween costumes! Why? Because generic, ugly costumes make everyone sad.

The necklace and bracelets I’m showing here are things you can easily wear sans costume.

Dress Like Pretty Little Liars Spencer Hastings for Halloween: Mary Queen of Scots Costume

Saturday, October 22nd, 2011

pretty little liars halloween costumes

For Halloween, Spencer Hastings donned a Mary Queen of Scots Costume. To dress like Spencer, look for Elizabethan Costumes. The only Mary Queen of Scots costume examples I see are pretty ugly or have to be custom made and are thusly tres expensive.

Now, about a Mary Queen of Scots Costume wig… This will be hard.  I have to be honest! You’ll want to get a short red wig that has curly hair. And that could be a problem. Plus, to be Mary Queen of Scots, it really needs to be red and curly. And since that’s pretty impossible to find… I have a suggestion! Look for a red, curly wig that you like. Now, you could cut it, yes. Maybe Youtube has haircut tutorials… I don’t know. But what I’d suggest is using clips and bobby pins to clip the hair up to make it appear short. If it’s a very long wig, you can even try to do a hairstyle of the time period. Start by parting in the middle (if possible.)

TGI Fridays Skillet Meals are Disgusting and Overpriced to Boot!

fridays skillet meals

I get furious when I spend money on something and it ends up failing me completely. Fridays Skillet Meals = super disappointing. And my expectations weren’t even that high!

I’m a lazy cook, so I am in the frozen food aisle a lot. Nothing is better to me than being able to just heat up my food and pretend I have a personal chef. And there are some pretty good things you can buy in this aisle, I especially love the Lean Cuisine Thai Meals and the P.F. Changs Orange Chicken Skillet Meal.

I do not recommend Fridays Frozen Skillet Meals or any of their Frozen Foods.

I’ve never had much luck with TGI Fridays Frozen Foods before. They never come out right, but you see that familiar red package and logo and you just go “Okay, one more time!” But every time, the food came out tasting bad. And the less recognizable brands were tastier. (I’ve had the TGI Fridays Frozen Chicken Quesadilla Rolls, Mozzarella Sticks, Cheddar and Bacon Potato Skins…and probably others. I have had frozen mozzarella sticks and frozen potato skins from other brands and ... Read More

Calvin Klein Sequin Front Mesh Dress from Zappos, here. This sequin dress is why I love Calvin Klein. It’s so effortless and easy and sexy without looking fussy or overworked. It oozes sex appeal, and yet it’s a semi-long dress! It has a flapper dress kind of feel to it, even though there’s no fringe. But it’s the right shape, cut, and length. This dress is definitely made for a party. The back is plain black, as to not overkill the sequined dress look.
