New Record! The Largest Cup of Coffee, EVER

by on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

To the non-coffee drinkers of the world, even a drop of the potent caffeinated beverage seems like far too much. Here’s the deal about coffee: it smells, it stains, and it can be so hot it scalds your poor mouth. But many of us crave the drink – decaf or not!

As one of the aforementioned people who does not imbibe coffee on a regular basis, the idea of breaking a Guinness World Record for the Largest Cup of Coffee ever brewed seems like a tortuous act. And even with all of my nose-snubbing towards coffee, I think GourmetGiftBaskets.com should be applauded that they broke the former record.

So, why did they do it? “…we had this massive cup and thought, we’d be crazy not to,” said Ryan Abood, CEO of GourmetGiftBasktets.com. “We had all the tools necessary and loved the challenge!”

We met with our ShesSmart.com, Sassy Sally, our reporter who was live on the scene*.

Hi Sally, where are you now? The Blog World Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. What happens in Vegas obviously should not stay in Vegas, woo!

When was it confirmed that they’d broken the record? On October 18,2010 at 12 p.m. PST. But I’m pretty sure they knew all along that they were going to win this thing unless someone sabotaged the coffee mug by turning it into the Liberty Bell with a giant crack.

When did they start making the coffee? If you can even imagine it, at 4 a.m. PST. That’s my bedtime.

Your bedtime is at 4 a.m. in the morning? You sound very judgmental! Who was there to support you when you got those awful highlights?

Moving on… How did they do it? Using a special coffee mug that was 8×8 feet. It would be perfect as a hot tub. I want to buy it on eBay if they put it up there.

Okay, uh, and what would you pay for a giant coffee mug that’s part of a new world record? What wouldn’t I pay? That thing is awesome. And I’d give it a name. Maybe Henrietta.

Back to the record.. how much coffee was in the mug? 2,010 gallons

That sounds like a lot. Imagine 32,160 cups of coffee, darling. That’s much more than you could drink in a day. You’re a lightweight.

That is a lot. And what was the previous record? In 2007, 911.5 gallons of coffee was brewed. AMATEURS! We are the winners! What, what!

What? What? Oh, I’m just excited. I had a lot of coffee. I was in the mood for it. Kind of like when I saw Chocolat I was in the mood for chocolate and a passionate lover who looked like Johnny Depp. Oh, and a French accent.

Okay. Well. Thank you, Sassy Sally!

We then scored an exclusive interview with the actual coffee mug**!

Hi, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today! I’ve had a very busy day, you know. My schedule is packed. I’m doing lunch with Justin Bieber tomorrow.

That’s awesome. So what does it feel like to break the world record? My soul feels fulfilled. It was a stressful day, and up until now I never felt like I’d reached my full potential. Now I can rest and be at peace.

Are you sick of coffee now? Never!

Do you know how Gourmet Gift Baskets decided to use a cute olive in their logo? Every time I see it I want to eat — Do I look like the brains of the operation? I’m the beauty and talent!

Be sure to check out GourmetGiftBaskets.com when you beginning holiday shopping for those hard-to-please people on your “nice” list. (If I make your list, I prefer chocolate!)

*This is a little joke, there is no person named Sassy Sally. And if there is, she isn’t working for us!

** Coffee mugs don’t actually talk. I learned this the hard way in second  grade.

Disclosure: This is not a paid post, but I was entered into a contest by sharing the information.
