I was watching FYH: For Your Home and thought they had a very cool DIY window treatment idea. The website doesn’t offer much information though – boo! Luckily, my memory isn’t so bad that I can’t expand on what info is already provided.

“A fast, easy, and inexpensive way to hang drapes is by stapling them to a 2Ɨ4 that is cut to fit your drape. Gather the material and secure as best you can with a staple gun. Screw an ā€œLā€ bracket into the 2Ɨ4 and then above or directly onto your molding depending on your desired length. Be sure to use a level and measuring tape when hanging your drapes!”

What I like about this window treatment design is that you don’t have to buy a ton of hardware. Although you may like going to a hardware store to ask for some tips.

What you need:

  1. 2×4 board
  2. Staple Gun or Stapler that can open flat
  3. One curtain per board (easy to just buy the pre-made panel in a store)
  4. Extra, contrasting, material to create the waterfall swag (If you want to make your own, the Flamina and Appia fabrics from Lorca at Osborne and Little are really luxe.)
  5. L bracket aka angle irons
  6. Screws
  7. Level
  8. Measuring Tape

I took a risk, and without being able to use Photoshop or any sort of cool touch screener or scanner, just sketched out this idea in paint:

Okay, I know it’s horrible – and you can laugh if you want. It’s very sad-looking! The idea is that you put some fabric over the panel and it creates visual interest and such. This is a long-curtain idea, and it covers the entire window. If you wanted this curtain to be more versatile, consider a way to clip some of it to the side in the daytime – or go the normal route of two curtains per window on a rod, and pulling them apart in the middle.

While writing this, I realized this isn’t as easy as it looked on TV. But I did start writing another post because of this one, which you can see tomorrow!
