Amazon.com is kind of the penultimate place to buy things online. Whether you’re looking for a Dwight Schrute bobble head or a decently-sized and affordable zebra print rug *, Amazon has you preeeetty covered. But smart shoppers know how to take advantage of deals. If you’ve been on Amazon more than just once, you probably have seen that some items (note: this means not EVERY item) qualify for free shipping. You know this because the item will say “eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping …” next to their price. The second part of this, to insure you get free shipping, is that you spend at least $25 dollars. And it all has to be on items eligible for the free shipping. Which isn’t that difficult, because a lot of stuff is.
So what’s the problemo here? Well, you have to make sure you have bought at least $25 worth of stuff. Let’s say you’re $5 dollars short. Paying $5 for something else is cheaper than paying for the shipping – so the smart choice is to find something else to buy. But what TO buy? Well, that’s where the website Filler Item comes into heavy play.
When you go to the website, it asks you to type in the amount you still need to purchase so you can get your free shipping. You type it in – and blammo, you get a list of items for that price, available on Amazon.
For our UK friends, there is the Amazon.co.uk Filler Item site, as well as the Amazon.ca Filler Item site. There’s also one for people in Japan, and I think the other is German. You can find them all linked from any of the other Filler Item sites.
To test this, I typed in that I need $3.19 to qualify. It gave me a long list in sections of items that started at $3.19, and went up by the penny. For just $3.21 I could get the Hopkins Ice Ripper 10″ Ergonomic Scraper, and at $3.30 I could get a book for a little cousin – Love You Forever (Paperback). Of course, the site might not always be right. I got my hopes up when they said there was a bottle of turtle wax for $3.40 (because the name is funny I just want to own some) but the linked page brought me to turtle wax that is a mere $2.09! But I suppose if you were a turtle wax enthusiast, or actually used the stuff, maybe you’d just buy two of the bottles and be happy.
*I thought I’d somehow stumbled upon an amazing deal for a chaise lounge, albeit in a bad print. So I clicked it and when I saw it larger, I had a bad feeling. And yup, it’s for PETS. Man. So naturally I decided to look at some chaise lounges. But that is for another post. Still, to tide you over…Ostrich Chaise Lounger / Chaise with Breast Pouch Option. Yes, IT HAS A BREAST POUCH.Lord knows that every time I’m at the beach I’m just like, “man, this would be a perfect day if only I had a pouch in which to lay my bosoms.”
