The cake is so pretty, it almost feels like a waste if you aren’t sharing it with several other people at a party.

The layers of the cake are dense and moist, the frosting is sweet and generous.

If you order the cake, it ships in a wonderful way. It arrives, packed with cool packs and styrofoam that helps keep the cake cool during transit. Getting it OUT of the careful packing is actually the only part I had a bit of trouble with. But from there, all you do is pop it in the fridge. Let it thaw overnight in the fridge.

The taste of it… mmm. There’s the perfect balance of lemon zing and sweet strawberry. Overall I’d call the cake creamy and satisfying.

A great Mother’s Day gift!

I received the “Scent with Love” Gardenia plant from Pro Plants. It immediately was transferred to my Mom, who is a fan of plants in a big, big way. Seriously, there’s a sunroom in her house that’s full of so much greenery you’d think it was a greenhouse. (The cats love it back there.)

The plant itself arrived packaged very nicely, with extra moss for padding. The leaves of the gardenia plant are a deep, healthy green. The plant doesn’t bloom yet, but my Mom has already remarked that she’s looking forward to the sweet scent of the gardenia flowers. See, it gives you something to look forward to! If you have kids, it’d be a nice thing to have a weekly watch of the plant (and discussion about how plants grow) with them around this gift.

I like that the container here is something unique and sweet – a little baby blue mailbox. On the side it says, “scent with love.” (Cute, right?) It definitely conveys the idea that this is a special, put-together gift rather than a random plant I’m giving to her. It says “gift.” And it also said some other stuff…but that’s just because I was making it talk…. (I’m silly.)

My experience with the Pro Plants team is that they are very friendly, energetic, and they help you get things done. They are a great company to work with. I did first receive an orchid, which did not arrive in great shape. I am not sure I would order an orchid online. I don’t think they resemble, at all, what they show you on the website. However, the Gardenia plant looks the same. It might have to do with the season in which they ship something, too.

To refresh your memory, I’ve previously reviewed the amazing fragrance necklace with the fresh Japanese Agarwood scent, and delightfully mellow Tuscan Fig perfume.

The fragrance: French Clary Sage (The tagline? You’re gonna love this. “Optimism in Bloom.”)

What does French Clary Sage smell like? “The clean and refreshing notes of French Clary Sage evoke bright summer days in the Provençal countryside. Sparkling watery notes harmonize with French Clary Sage, Yellow Freesia, and Cotton Accords to create a crisp, modern green fragrance.”

Cool trivia: “For centuries, the French have used Clary Sage oil to help balance energy and combat feelings of discord. King Louis XIV used clary sage as part of his daily ritual for its euphoric and renewing benefits. Today, French Clary Sage (….) is still being used to inspire feelings of optimism.” I’m very interested in going back to basic scents that people have been using for hundreds of years, because they’ve been proven to work and stand the test of time.

The format: I am specifically reviewing the French Clary Sage Variations. It contains four different vials. This scent, as with all Lisa Hoffman scents, is available in many other formats – from lotions to perfume oils.) The four variations of the scent can be worn one at a time, combined, layered, or however you want. The idea is that there is a scent for each time of day. There’s: Morning, Daytime, Evening, Bedtime.

Morning: The lightest variation. Just enough to linger as you prepare for the day. I smell some lemon here. It’s very “bright.” It makes me feel very alert.

Daytime: A strong foundation of what the scent is at its most basic. It smelled more of fresh greens. It puts me in a great state of mind to be confident and attack the day, which you guys know can be daunting what with, COUGH COUGH,  me having to talk to people like Hugh Dancy and Heidi Klum. (And that’s just the H’s!) Seriously, everyone needs confidence as they go throughout the day, right?

Evening: Sensual! My favorite of the four. Reminds me of libraries, worn velvet, and leather.

Bedtime: Soothing and mellow. The hardest for me to smell. Not sure if this is as good as the rest.

Why bother for FOUR VARIATIONS of one scent? Your sense of smell changes throughout the day.

My thoughts: You might think the scents might all smell too similar to be worthwhile, but I guarantee you each one was totally different upon inspection from my honed nose! And that’s exciting, because this entire product style is totally innovative and new. The idea that if you love a scent, you can get a lot of variations on it, is amazing. Plus, I love the core concept. After a few hours, scents tend to fade. And here, instead of applying more of the same, you put something else on that is actually correlated to the time of day that it is. It’s genius. And honestly, the only reason Lisa Hoffman Beauty products ARE getting so much coverage on ShesSmart.com is because I have been so impressed by them all, and I want to really let other potential purchasers know what they’re in store for. My one note is that I wish there was a way to differentiate the bottles with some sort of ombre effect where the morning scent would be lightest green, and the bedtime scent would be darkest green. I am also not sure if quite enough product comes out of the vials.

Pick your desired scent and pick your product type. It’s as easy as that. Of course, the hardest part is trying to limit your fragrance choices, when the brand School of Wash has over a hundred of them. In fact, they’ll even let you create a custom scent if you so choose. I was sent a variety of bath and beauty product types in a variety of scents, and I’m going to let you know my thoughts.

Overall, I completely recommend this brand of natural bath products. The amount of scents you can pick from is unbelievable and truly mind-boggling. It’s like I’m a kid in a candy store, but there’s no calories! What’s more, this is natural stuff…you aren’t going to find nasty parabens or sulfates here.

My only qualm is that I, personally, am not wild about the logo. But that’s not really a big problem at all. It’s the only issue I had, is all!

I find this company to be super friendly, and someone that I definitely will purchase from in the future. I highly recommend you check them out today so you can start your own obsession with all the scents and products!

School of Wash Natural Bath Products Scent Reviews

• Vanilla Sandalwood – My current most favorite scent in the entire world. It’s very calming, a mix of dreamy and down-to-earth scents that is the ideal fragrance for my bedroom. Vanilla spice is mixed with “sweet and earthy aroma of Indian sandalwood” and it’s…divine. >> A SHE’S SMART TOP RATED SCENT <<
• Patchouli Lavender – The earthy scent grounds you while the florals make it sweeter. Both are great oils. These are two calming scents that come together to give you a powerful dose of zen. >> A SHE’S SMART TOP RATED SCENT <<
• Wild Chamomile – I have to admit that I have turned out to not be such a huge fan of these scent in general. If you actually know that you like the smell of chamomile and chamomile tea, then this would better suit you than I. (I have to admit I’m very picky with my teas, as well.)  For those interested, this is described as being bright with fruity and herbaceous notes.
• Flower Bloom – This came as a sachet, and I am loving it in my sock/underwear drawer. The scent is so feminine and pretty! Seriously, I’m addicted. It smells like Flowerbomb perfume by Viktor & Rolf.) You’ve got freesia, orchid, and rose on top of orange bergamot, tea, jasmine, and even a dash of patchouli. >> A SHE’S SMART TOP RATED SCENT <<
• Hazelnut – It is SO hard to find a good hazelnut scent. Seriously, I’m always looking and never succeeding. Yankee makes a Hazelnut Coffee candle that is…yea, not good. But this Hazelnut smells just like the coffee grounds that literally makes me feel a kind of warm and grounded feeling. I would say this is creamy, and not harsh. A soothing scent, in a way.
• Chai – Like the scent above, this makes me feel warm and happy…as though I’m in my favorite coffee shop. For the uninitiated, Chai tea is DELICIOUS and smells like pumpkin pie. That is…imagine cloves, orange, and vanilla spiced tea.
• Wicked Witch- Ah, now this is a divisive scent! See, I love it. I think it’s a spicy and woodsy scent that’s dark and dank and reminds me of Autumn and Halloween. It has patchouli, cinnamon and tea tree oils to create that mist. However, my sister and a friend both got a whiff of this and were turned off. See, some scents are a little less universal. Most everything else on this list is a pretty “safe” scent, I’d say. But this one is something that you’ll either love or hate. For me, I think it’s great to have occasionally.
• Eucalyptus Spearmint – This is absolutely refreshing, and perfect to use as a scrub when you want to feel woken up and incredibly clean. For me, that’s in the mornings or anytime I’ve been swimming in the lake (which is very often, during the Summer!)
• Rosemary Mint – This is such a great scent that I’ve loved ever since I used Aveda’s Rosemary Mint shampoo and conditioner back in the 90′s. However, their products these days don’t have that same, strong scent that they use to. But the Rosemary Mint shampoo and conditioner by School of Wash? Exactly that strong scent I remember! I am overwhelmingly pleased, and find this scent to be so great to use. It’s … a healing, cleansing sort of scent. You should definitely check it out.

• Exfoliating Liquid Body Scrub – The beads are SUPER finely milled (it’s fine grain pumice – something other companies never get so right) and give you a thorough scrub. The scent of the product was definitely evident. It was like POW. What more could you want? (You definitely want to check out School of Wash for handmade bath scrubs. The quality here is seriously great.)
• Creamy Handmade, Whipped Pumice Foot Scrub – Now, there are so many different scrubs out there. But why does this one stand out immediately? Because it doesn’t have any excess water or oil on the top. Instead it’s a luscious, whipped concoction. >> A SHE’S SMART TOP RATED ITEM <<
• Handmade Shampoo – Like many new shampoo’s that are around, this one doesn’t lather. I prefer the lather, but I know it’s actually better when it doesn’t. The scent for the shampoo was great, though. Who doesn’t want yummy-smelling hair?
• Handmade Conditioner – Like with the shampoo, the scent was powerful. I loved that. Worked great. The bottles are tiny, which I like…because then you can mix up the scents a lot. Just like you’d expect from School of Was, there are no parabens, sodium-chloride or sulfates. There’s no weird dyes, and it’s safe for your hair even if you have keratin-treated hair.
• Handmade Room and Linen Spray – I enjoy using this on my bed before I sleep. Opt for a dreamy, light scent with lavender or vanilla.
• Handmade Scented Drawer Satchets – First off, these are an inexpensive way to sample scents that you may be curious about. I also find them super handy. They’re POWERFUL, and hold a lot of scent. Where can you put them? Well, drawers, of course. But anywhere…from your pantry to a closet. You can even put them in stinky shoes, or in pretty potpourri that has lost its scent. >> A SHE’S SMART TOP RATED ITEM<<
• Handmade Body Lotion – Their lotion is silky and luxurious. It moisturizes and gives you a great scent of your choice. No parabens or mineral oil! Aaaand…it comes in a handy spray pump bottle.

My thoughts: This ingenious filigree dome holds scent beads that last and last. The necklace itself is easy to use, and looks delicate and beautiful when worn with literally any outfit. This necklace has a powerful design that really keeps your scent with you in an impressive way. The Lisa Hoffman Fragrance necklace format is brilliant! (For more Lisa Hoffman Fragrance Reviews, stay on ShesSmart.com) Were I needing Bridesmaid gifts, this would be my #1 choice. It has a sentimental and romantic feel, and is such a unique item. What you have to decide is what scent you want, which will tell you which kind of metal tone you will then get. I am not as fond as the metal tone that the Japanese Agarwood has, as other ones that are available. This is kind of a dark silver (“antiqued bronze”), but I feel it needs more luster and shine to look as special as it is. But I also have a very fair skin tone, so that contributes to how it looks on me in particular. The fragrance beads are made from wood flour from sustainable, replenished tree farms and forests. I love that even though the wooden beads are small, Lisa Hoffman has gone out of her way to make sure she’s delivering this product to us in a eco-friendly way. Every little bit helps. The beads are said to last between 1-2 weeks, however I believe they last much longer than that. I am in week 3 and the scent is seriously, no joke, as strong as ever. Sometimes I forget I am wearing the necklace, and then get a fresh whiff of the scent as though I’d just sprayed new perfume on… and let me tell you, it’s always a welcome surprise.

Now, can we talk about the scent itself? Though it’s got many light, watery notes to it at the top (which are actually bergamot), it’s also got a woody sense to it. That’s the literal Japanese Agarwood that’s the heart note here. At the bottom, base notes, you’ve got ginger, amber and cedarwood. When they call a scent “soulful” it might sound silly, but I understand it. It’s … grounding, somehow. It reminds me of nature, which itself is a grounding force. When I inhale past what I smell as a watery, airy first part, I smell the spiced, woodsy notes. For me, it’s a Spring Morning in early April when the crocuses are just starting to pop up, and a few bright yellow daffodils are in sight. (All Lisa Hoffman Japanese Agarwood Reviews that I see are all fans.)

The fragrance: Tuscan Fig

What does it smell like? “Surrounded by vanilla bean, honeysuckle, coconut wood, and gardenia, Tuscan Fig entices you with its warm essence. Like your own secret treasure, this fragrance transports you to the most enchanting valleys, vineyards, and fruit groves of Tuscany.”

The format: I am specifically reviewing the Eau de Parfum spray bottle. $65.00. (Available in many other formats, including the ingenious jewelry styles.)

My thoughts: It is both sweet and sexy, which is a difficult scent to achieve. It’s also a very dark and warm scent at the base which must be the fig, amber, vanilla, wood and musks. These are the notes that linger. But at first, what you get are the hits of sweet french jasmine, honeysuckle, vanilla bean and gardenia. I like that there’s an ongoing scent of floral, but the woodsy scent never leaves. It’s actually a quiet sexy scent, as I mentioned above. It reminds me exactly of what I’d expect of the Italian Countryside with heavy sunsets in the sky, and sweet aroma’s of blossoms and fruit in the balmy evening skies of summer. Normally I would instruct you to keep “warm” scents to wear during Winter, but with most of the Lisa Hoffman scents I’ve smelled, I find these are pretty universal in terms of what season they’d be perfect for. I find that when I spray it on, it lasts for a couple hours. I definitely like this scent. It also makes me want to check Netflix for the Italian-based movies “Letters to Juliet” with Amanda Seyfried, and “Stealing Beauty” with Liv Tyler.

Hydrating Stick Gloss Review – Lipstick that moisturizes! Mia Mariu lipsticks and lipglosses are amazing for this reason: they are HYDRATING and have lip balm qualities. I opted for “Beso” which is a rosy pink. It has a sheer quality until you build it up, so you don’t need to be afraid of the candy pink color. It feels very creamy on my lips, which makes me want to apply it more often. And that makes me look better more often! Plus, I hate when normal lipsticks start to dry out around the edges of my mouth, and this doesn’t do that. You’ve gotta try one of these lipsticks!

Luminous Lip Gloss Review - Moisturizing lip gloss! The color I picked is a coral/pink that’s super flattering and called “Dulzura”. This gloss is not sticky like most, and the color applies with just a hint of pink if you use just one layer. I think if you wanted more of a pigmented color you might try using a lipliner first, or layering this over your lipstick. (Or, go for another lip gloss color. I actually suspect the “Tentacion” color isn’t as scary as it looks!

Mineral Powder Bronzer Review – South Beach – It has Contains Vitamin A, C and E, which is great,  and SO  is this particular color on my pale skin. Most bronzers will make me look dirty, but this one gives me that sunkissed look I crave. It has a silky, shimmery application that gives the right hint of bronze color to my skin. I have used it just as a blush, and also as a bronzer with my blush. Hands down: this is a great bronzer for fair skin tones. I think it’s the shimmer that helps, along with this tone of color. Either way, if you have fair skin you’ll want to try it out for yourself!

Mineral Blush Review – Maria Bonita – This is a pretty safe rosy-hue that will likely flatter anyone! It certainly flatters my skin. The glow it gives me is beautiful, and it’s really hard to apply too much because it blends like a dream.

Shadora.com offers what they call “fabulous finds at impossibly low prices.” With a pair of White Sapphire and silver studs in my hands, I’m ready to give my ruling to add to Shadora jewelry reviews.

Shadora.com says it offers real gemstones that is not costume jewelry, and I have no reason not to believe them. But then why are people are googling for “Shadora Fake Jewelry”? Well, probably because when something seems too good to be true it often is. Here, I think they walk the line.

It’s not about whether their jewelery is fake, it’s about the quality of their real jewelry. They use real gold, silver and gemstones. But I believe these are lab-created gemstones. The way they assemble the jewelry also minimizes their use of metal to save on cost. So, it’s all technically real, but they’ve found ways to give you these low prices. It’s the quality that isn’t so great. I would purchase from there if it was for me, but this is not jewelry you probably want to purchase as a gift for anyone, and certainly not heirloom jewelry. I feel like it’s difficult to know whether gemstones are crystals or not, so what really helps make the price of jewelry worth it is how it is put together to stand the test of time.

My white sapphire and silver earrings are put together in a rather annoying way. There is a post, but it’s only connected at the very top of the earrings. This means that my hair catches under the earrings, and they’re not easy to sleep and shower in without feeling like they’re gonna be pulled off of my ears (a fear I am paranoid about.) And before anyone says “well, they didn’t put a silver backin on the stone because leaving it open lets the light shine in” let’s all admit that with a stud earring the back goes against your earlobe. That means, what? That there’s no way that light is gonna come through the back of the thing. The same is true with pendants and anything that doesn’t involve a dangling or drop earring.

Though these have four prongs, the white sapphire is also not set into the silver properly. For what you want: see this picture. You want a silver back to it, with the pointy end of the stone hovering a bit so there is a bit of light that comes in that way.

Because of the quality, and the instance of using silver in most cases, the prices aren’t really all that great. What’s important is to remember to look at the carat size of gemstones. And pay attention to phrases of things that say something is gold plated instead of gold. Gold plating is less expensive, anywhere. Also look for when something is called a crystal.

The first thing I did was Google the price of other white topaz stud earrings made with sterling silver but also at 2 carat size. (And then checking whether it said it was lab created white topaz or not.)

• Overstock offered the same for $10.00
• Sears offers the same (but larger – 3 carats) for $14.00
• Buy.com offers the same for $10.00

As you can see, the deal isn’t as special as it seems. And I’m sure the “stock is low” urging reflects more of an urge to have you click a purchase fast, rather than actual stock levels.

On the other hand, I also see the same type of earrings offered at $99 or $300! You really have to beware those who will sell things so marked up. When Shadora says that jewelry stores do mark up items, they aren’t lying.

What bothers me is that they say they have a butterfly back, but no where does the site mention that it’s not in the standard way. The jewelry gift box they mention is a cardboard/plastic box and inside the earrings are in a cheap plastic bag. That is not a way to present a gift.

You also have to factor in shipping costs when figuring out if any of this jewelry is a deal. But I’m not a competently heartless bitch. I decided I’d find one item on Shadora.com that would be a good deal. I found this Black Onyx Bracelet:
