How to dress like Amy Pond from Doctor Who

Recently I’ve been writing with upbeat music in the background. Silly stuff, really. Like Girls Aloud or Kylie Minogue.  Music has a way of enhancing your emotions, and I try to harness the happy ones so my writing can be cheerful. Today, though, I’m having a bad day. I don’t want to listen to happy music. But while I was on twitter I came across the name “Sarah June Parker” and when I see cool things I tend to go crazy with the googlin’. I found a page with quotes by her, and there’s one I like that’s pretty cheesy. It doesn’t live up to the image of this person I had in my head, but I like it anyway. “May I never miss a sunset or a rainbow because I am looking down.”

So, the music I’m listening to right now is by Patty Griffin. And instead of focusing on the sadder songs in her collection (Rain, Moses, Long Ride Home) I’m listening to “Heavenly Day”. And you know, this sort of feeling goes along with what I wanted to write about today. Or rather, WHO. And that who is Amy Pond on Doctor Who (played by Karen Gillan). As The Doctor would say, she’s brilliant.

Celebrate life everyday! Everyday is a holiday.

Today we’re celebrating the heroine Amy Pond on Doctor Who. The series is great, and if you don’t watch it I encourage you to check it out. It was rebooted a few years ago. This companion of The Doctor’s is strong, like all of the companions. I love that these companions are never damsel’s in distress. They’re great fictional role models. Amy Pond is a tough, strong girl who always speaks her mind, and brings some comedy wherever she goes. (She always has a witty quip!)

Part of being the heroine in your own life means you are strong, and you know that you have inner-strength. You can endure anything. And for those who watch Doctor Who, you know that Amy has to be stronger than ever now. (Well, in a way – I can’t say too much or it’s spoilery.)

Loss breaks our heart, and it makes us want to be defeatist. But sinking down to wallow for too long doesn’t do your heart very good. The thing to do is look up to see what’s on the horizon. There is beauty in things, if only you will look to see them with new eyes.

Your daily challenge from the She’s Smart blog:

Re-examine if you are the heroine of your own life. If you aren’t, why not? You can be.

Everyone loves the Amy Pond cowboy boots, and who can blame them? Don’t you want to strut in them? Imagine yourself strutting in a pair of these as you walk down the aisle of a Grocery store today.
