Nora Ephron wears a lot of hats – director, producer, screenwriter, novelist, journalist, blogger… And she’s very well known even if you aren’t aware of it. Her name is attached to some of our favorite movies. Voila: Julie & Julia,  Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, Mixed Nuts (YOU MUST SEE THIS), You’ve Got Mail (I rewatch this every couple of years)… So yea, obviously she likes working with fantastic women i.e Meg Ryan, Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. Strong women are drawn to strong women!

Since I’m a movie fiend, I’m more familiar with her movies than her novels:

Nora Ephron Quotes

ON LIFE

“Because you can never have too much butter, that is my belief. If I have a religion, that’s it.”

“In my sex fantasy, nobody ever loves me for my mind.”

“Insane people are always sure that they are fine. It is only the sane people who are willing to admit that they are crazy.”

“I don’t care who you are. When you sit down to write the first page of your screenplay, in your head, you’re also writing your Oscar acceptance speech.”

ON MEN

“Beware of men who cry. It’s true that men who cry are sensitive to and in touch with feelings, but the only feelings they tend to be sensitive to and in touch with are their own.”

“There are plenty of men who philander during the summer, to be sure, but they are usually the same lot who philander during the winter-albeit with less convenience.”

ON FAMILY

“My mother wanted us to understand that the tragedies of your life one day have the potential to be comic stories the next.”

“What my mother believed about cooking is that if you worked hard and prospered, someone else would do it for you.”

“If pregnancy were a book they would cut out the last two chapters”

ON KIDS

“With any child entering adolescence, one hunts for signs of health, is desperate for the smallest indication that the child’s problems will never be important enough for a television movie.”

“[A successful parent is one] who raises a child who grows up and is able to pay for his or her own psychoanalysis.”
