Add the name “Lindsey Ray” to your musical radars. You’ve likely heard her music without realizing it. Her collaboration with Tim Myers of OneRepublic was the song behind a national ad campaign for Target commercials from 2008-2009. And you know how those Target commercials make you feel energized and like your cramped closet is just full of potential to be organized and transformed? Half the reason those commercials inspire you like that is because of the sounds paired with them. And I’m not at all surprised that they opted to use a  Lindsey Ray duet.

Her hopeful and clear voice reminds me of one you’d expect to be singing for the voice of a modern Disney Princess (they’re all hopeful heroines, after all! and I can’t wait for the new Rapunzel) Quite a bit about Lindsey also reminds me of another famous girl – Alice Liddell (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland). Is that a sly Cheshire cat I see hovering in the distance of Ray’s Wonderland-esque landscape?

About her music: Lindsey doesn’t shy away from writing songs about life’s trials and tribulations, and she maintains a positive outlook that gives listeners hope for a better tomorrow. Her optimistic nature assures us that although life is never picture perfect, we are perfect just the way we are.

Lindsey Ray "Picture Perfect" EP

People are always asking for references in the column of what someone “sounds like”. My best approximation is a mix of Kate Nash, Ingrid Michaelson, Charlotte Martin, Chantal Kreviazuk and Zooey Deschanel. Lindsey’s debut EP Picture Perfect is already available to purchase. Aside from the Target commercial, the song “You Make Me Happy” was on a recent April 2010 episode of Ghost Whisperer. She’s also had songs on the TV shows Mercy and Castle (Nathan Fillion!), plus the Lifetime original movie Sorority Wars. A full-length album by Lindsey will be released on July 27th, 2010. So, we have that to look forward to. If you recommend her to your friends now, they’ll think you are really connected to what is hip in the music world. And that’s not cheating. 😉

“Brand New Day” as heard on the Target commercials nationwide.

While I’m not a legit psychic, I am pretty sure that in the future we’ll be hearing Ray’s songs on romantic comedy soundtracks for movies starring the likes of A-lister darlings Jennifer Garner, Kristen Bell, Isla Fisher and/or Kate Hudson. If you happen to be a fan of those types of movies? You definitely need to give Lindsey a listen. (And if you don’t have any love for chick flick classics like How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, When in Rome, Confessions of a Shopaholic or 13 Going on 30 – I don’t understand you!)

I really love the styling that Lindsey displays in these photos taken by Jen Rosenstein. Seriously now, don’t you wish you could pull off that platinum blonde hair look? I do. My snap judgment glance is that I’d definitely trust style advice from her. Rather than seeming styled to be a certain way in the public eye, I get the feeling from the art direction for her EP covers and the design of her website this is just an extension of her sweet, whimsical and girly personality. I would even wager that Lindsey vintage and handmade items as much as do.
