great gift ideas for women

All About Gifts & Baskets sent me the Deepest Appreciation Gift Basket. I mean, they’re just so grateful for my existence in this world! Kidding. They sent it to be reviewed. And even though I don’t know this company well, this gift was personalized (with a ribbon that had my name on it, and yes, it felt very cool) and it made me feel appreciated. Imagine the effects that will occur if you send one to someone you actually do know and want to thank.

Here is the description:

Show your gratitude for a job well done with our basket full of gourmet goodies. Perfect for a colleague, client or friend, we’ve included only the best selection of sweet and savory treats. Inside the reusable tray basket they’ll find a Ghirardelli Chocolate and Caramel Square, Foccacia Crisps, French Vanilla Cocoas, Angelina’s Butter Cookies, English Breakfast Tea Canister, Harney and Son’s Tea, Napa Valley Honey Mustard Nuggets, Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Coffee and Brent and Sam’s Soft and Chew Cookie. For the perfect presentation we’ve wrapped the gift up in a personalized ribbon.

plus size blogger

“We are SO glad to bring Rachel into the fold as our plus size blogger, as I know many of you have responded very positively when we’ve included plus size options in our posts! Now we have someone who will head up that section, and focus on doing plus size reviews and plus size giveaways! Make her feel welcome, mmkay? Love ya!” – Jessica Rae (Lead Writer for ShesSmart.com)

Hiya! I’m Rachel, and I’ll be your plus size fashion blogger for this site. I’m a blonde, 30-something who loves girly things like pink umbrella’s and sparkly crystal earrings. I’ll never vagazzle myself, but I am admittedly a fan of shine and sparkle.

I have a boyfriend,  and yes I made him go see “Eat, Pray, Love” at the theaters with me!

The Web is great to help us curvy girls, although it’s not always simple to know what shops are out there, and which ones of those are good. That’s where I hope to help. I’m also here to share any plus size tips I’ve learned as a fashion maven who was never the right size to feel she was allowed to be fashionable.

New Record! The Largest Cup of Coffee, EVER

largest cup of coffee

To the non-coffee drinkers of the world, even a drop of the potent caffeinated beverage seems like far too much. Here’s the deal about coffee: it smells, it stains, and it can be so hot it scalds your poor mouth. But many of us crave the drink – decaf or not!

As one of the aforementioned people who does not imbibe coffee on a regular basis, the idea of breaking a Guinness World Record for the Largest Cup of Coffee ever brewed seems like a tortuous act. And even with all of my nose-snubbing towards coffee, I think GourmetGiftBaskets.com should be applauded that they broke the former record.

So, why did they do it? “…we had this massive cup and thought, we’d be crazy not to,” said Ryan Abood, CEO of GourmetGiftBasktets.com. “We had all the tools necessary and loved the challenge!”

We met with our ShesSmart.com, Sassy Sally, our reporter who was live on the scene*.

Hi Sally, where are you now? The Blog World Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. What happens in Vegas obviously should not stay in Vegas, woo!

When was it confirmed that they’d broken the record? On October 18,2010 at 12 p.m. PST. But I’m pretty sure they knew all along t ... Read More

tasty awards

I made breakfast this morning, guys! That’s a big deal, for me.  And it was  even edible! I made french toast (with vanilla, clove and cinnamon) and brown sugar bacon (tip: I’ve made this twice now and you should cook it the full 22/24 minutes, or it won’t get crispy enough.) I’d planned to make fruit smoothies but I settled for orange juice (and okay, an additional side beverage of Diet Coke because I need to hydrate and also have caffeine!)

Taking a tiny pause, I wanted to share with you guys something exciting. I’m one of the judges for The Tasty Awards. What is that? You’ve asked a fair question!

The TASTY AWARDS is the premier broadcast awards show to celebrate and recognize the year’s best achievements in food and fashion programs on Television, in Film, and Online.

TASTY AWARDS are selected in various categories by a Panel of A-list industry Judges, as well as by Viewer Voting. Recipients are announced and receive their hon ... Read More

purple twitpic

You might be wondering why you keep seeing people’s twitter pictures (twitpic’s) tinted purple. That’s because people are showing their support for Spirit Day in all sorts of ways, including online. (Hey, the internet is a powerful force!)

You can find all the information you need about Spirit Day right here.

Press Release Content:

Behold! Creative Shadow Box Ideas from ShadowCase

shadowcase kit

Do you know how you have certain items that you keep, but don’t really know how to display? That’s my problem with a lot of antique jewelry. I put some on my vanity, but at the end of the day sometimes it just looks all jumbled together. Enter: Shadowboxes. They let you frame items other than just pictures.

ShadowCases let you tell a story, and you can pick a theme. Maybe it was an important event like a Ballet recital (I still remember my first one – I was a swan!)  or a Family reunion. Or maybe you want to display the vintage baseball cards your Grandfather collected. Whatever you have a collection if, I’m guessing it’d look better presented nicely!

On ShadowCase.com you can can buy items separatley, or as a kit. They offer different styles of shadow cases, backgrounds aka storyboards and accessories like pins and photo frames to use within the case.

You know how high schools have display cases? Think of this as a mini, personal display case for your house/room.

I was sent the Vintage ShadowCase Kit from ShadowCase.com. And here is what I made, using antique items from my Grandmother:

The beaded purse is something she took to her prom. The little frog on the left is an old-fashioned p ... Read More

Fashionable Halloween Costumes

stylish halloween costumes

I was inspired to write this post after seeing images from what might have been a fashion show, by BoDez on Flickr.

How great would it be to take stylish elements and make a Pocahontas costume? Or, a seasonal fairy? (The below images evokes an Autumn fairy to me.) With the right jewelry, hair accessories, and makeup you can make so many looks work without having to go buy a cheesy halloween costume. You can make fashionable halloween costumes pretty easily with a few key elements.

But, if you want to be more tongue-in-cheek, I’m Your Present on Etsy.com has made some fun Halloween stylish costumes in the Pumpkin Suspender Skirt and the ... Read More

IZZE Reviews of IZZE Sparkling Juice, IZZE Fortifized and IZZE-ESQUE Natural Sparkling Juices

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

One of my FAVORITE'S. Apple and Peach were both so good. Yummers.

Trying to be healthy isn’t all fun and games, but it can include colorful, sparkling juice drinks if you play your cards right. I had a chance to try some IZZE Fortified Natural Sparkling Juice with Vitamins and some IZZE-Esque  All Natural, Low Calorie Sparkling Juice.

IZZE Beverage Company was founded in 2002 by two friends who set out to create a distinctive natural beverage while contributing to a higher purpose. IZZE sparkling juice, an all-natural blend of pure fruit juice and sparkling water, is free of caffeine, refined sugars and artificial ingredients. It is naturally sweetened with fruit juice only.

Zevia Review & Giveaway: Refreshing and Natural

zevia review

I make it no secret that I LOVE Diet Soda Pop. I love the FIZZ. And I love the lack of calories. Well, I recently had a chance to try a new kind of Diet Soda Pop called Zevia. Since some of you might be curious, I think it’ll be nice to give you my thoughts on the drink and the different flavors.

I’m usually pretty loyal to other brands because I tend to get into a routine. But I think I will be breaking my routine to get a couple of these Zevia flavors. The Zevia pops are made with Stevia (I know, funny names that rhyme) which is a natural sweetner found in the Rainforest. The tagline for Zevia is, “Nature’s Answer to Diet Soda.” Color me intrigued. I like the idea of all natural things – whether that’s all natural food, all natural makeup, or all natural drinks.

I did a little Googlin’ on Stevia and found it’s a great sweetener for those watching carbs, and has been widely used in Japan since the 70’s. My only concern is if ... Read More
