Sometimes I watch TV live – which means I see commercials – GASP! Remember those? Well,  last night I watched (and reviewed) America’s Next Top Model live. I probably left a couple times to grab a snack or indulge Shopcat in treats (if you have a cat and want to know – she’s goes crazy for these: Whisker Lickin’s Tender Moments Soft & Delicious in the Chicken Flavor), but mostly I was being a (fashionable, Snuggie-model) slug on the couch. The thing I forget about commercials is that sometime’s they’re enjoyable and remind me of things. I promise I’m not brain-washed, though.

Oooh! Handmade, Whimsical Dolls for Children that are as Unique as they are Cute

quirky doll

The instant I saw the Blabla kids creations, I became a fan. The company was created by friends Florence Wetterwald and Susan Pritchett after they visited Peru and saw villages devoted to knitting. Wetterwald designs the blabla’s, and Peruvian artists handknit them using natural fibers grown right in Peru. They are known for being super soft, and I can attest to that fact.

What is a blabla? I’m going to quote the website on this, “It means everything and nothing, it’s a swirl of letters flying, a small world for a big idea… ‘Happiness fits in the palm of the hand.’ Blabla searches for beauty, authenticity and laughter.” The blabla collection includes dolls of all sorts, rattles, backpacks, puppets, keychains, mobiles, and doll clothing.

I think the dolls are amazing – from the quirky “Boogalos” to the “Classic blablas”. The mobiles are also something that really caught my eye.

How to Make Your Own Window Treatments on the Cheap

waterfall swag

The link to these fabrics is provided below - aren't they gorgeous?

I was watching FYH: For Your Home and thought they had a very cool DIY window treatment idea. The website doesn’t offer much information though – boo! Luckily, my memory isn’t so bad that I can’t expand on what info is already provided.

“A fast, easy, and inexpensive way to hang drapes is by stapling them to a 2×4 that is cut to fit your drape. Gather the material and secure as best you can with a staple gun. Screw an “L” bracket into the 2×4 and then above or directly onto your molding depending on your desired length. Be sure to use a level and measuring tape when hanging your drapes!”

What I like about this window treatment design is that you don’t have to buy a ton of hardware. Although you may like going to a hardware store to ask for some tips.

What you need:

  • 2×4 board
  • Staple Gun or Stapler that can open flat
  • One curtain per board ... Read More
  • Design Inspirations from Fabric Wake my Lazy DIY Sensibility

"An embroidery on silk featuring bees and dragonflies darting between scattered tulips and peonies, inspired by the finest gardens. In three colourways, on ivory, on pale taupe and eau de Nil.

This Lorca fabric was the start of my inspiration journey towards thinking outside of my pre-established, fairly inexperienced DIY box.

After writing about making your own window treatments yesterday, now I’m obsessed with Lora fabrics. While looking at the luxe fabrics I got ideas for pillows, art for my walls, and even something you can do with your kids. From framing fabrics, stenciling fabric, or even your jeans – there’s lots of ideas for you to look over and consider. I definitely feel CRAFTY now. Beauty inspires me.  But in this case, I had to think how I could re-interpret some of this ideas in order to be possible. Buying tons of this fabric for curtains would be expensive. But framing just some high quality fabric? That is doable. And if that isn’t something you want to do, try re-creating one of the fabric looks with paint and your own fabrics. Just as stores look to big designers for ideas, you can look to the best interior design ideas to recreate for yourself.

Auto Expressions 143306 Premier Visor Organizer

Park this on the floor: Caselogic ACC-15 Black Center Console Organizer

I was recently in the car with my Mom and we had the following conversation:

Me: I hate this car because it is trashed.

    Mom: It is not.

Me: If you took a poll and asked people ‘Is this car trashed yes or no’, they’d say yes.

    Mom: It has papers.

Me: Sure. …And Kleenex boxes –

Mom: (Interrupting) You’re supposed to have kleenex in your car.

Me: Sure, but two of them – both unopened? There’s coupons on the floor, an umbrella, scattere ... Read More

Graffiti Wall of Notes to Parents

    father daughter

Sometimes Twitter has decent trending topics. And I do love Twitter for a few reasons, and that includes how you can easily access other people’s thoughts and emotions from the exact point in time you find yourself. Thoughts on parents are obviously always going to cover a very wide spectrum… I picked some of my favorite (with variety). What do you think your children would write to you? What would you write to your own parents? Recognize your answers, and then reflect on if that’s the answers you want to have. Do you want to make changes in your relationships? A smart person knows it’s never too late to try.

Fight off the fear, leave your expectations at the door, and just breathe. It will never be harder than this. It will never be easier than this. Love generously, and love without strings attached. Just breathe. The only person you need to live up to is yourself, and the only person someone else needs to live up to is themselves. Just breathe. You cannot change someone else, no matter how much you believe it is universally recognized (by friends, therapists, even your dog) that the other person should change. Give up that fight right now. You’ll never win. ... Read More

    star trek baby clothing

If you’re an awesome person who just happens to also be a mother, why not let everyone know that your kid is awesome, too? There is too much awesome going on to contain it! I found some star trek specific items, and then general geek stuff. But I was not able to find any Doctor Who baby clothes, which was disappointing!

Star Trek Uniform Onsies will train the elite. More.

Geek kids clothes don’t come any cuter when it involves a self-rescuing princess. More.

Do You Know the Website That Will Ensure you Never Pay for Shipping on Amazon in this Lifetime?

"Ergonomic, rounded handle for greater grip power. More comfortable than traditional scrapers." Sounds pretty decent!

5x8 Contemporary Animal Print Modern Zebra Area Rug - 44% off. I kinda dig it.

Amazon.com is kind of the penultimate place to buy things online. Whether you’re looking for a Dwight Schrute bobble head or a decently-sized and affordable zebra print rug *, Amazon has you preeeetty covered. But smart shoppers know how to take advantage of deals. If you’ve been on Amazon more than just once, you probably have seen that some items (note: this means not EVERY item) qualify for free shipping. You know this because ... Read More

    butt pillow

Do you like where you sit? Do you think this looks like the Jetson's living room? Photo by misocrazy on Flickr.

The last time I was in my friend’s car, she apologetically tried to hide away this weird blue thing. But I’m a curious lady, so I was all “What is that???”. Turns out, the weird flat plank with a hole in it was an orthopedic seat cushion (read: butt pillow!). She uses it in her car because she drives a ton. But the fact that there’s a hole in the pillow is weird. She explained it to me, and now I’m going to share it with you. If you sit in an uncomfortable chair or seat anywhere (office, home, car, sports games, boats, in jail, the teacup rides at Disney World) it is unacceptable!

    patio chaise lounge chairs

When it comes to luxury in the outdoors, building a pool is totally not a possibility for me. Neither is a gazebo, a bridge, or a koi pond (see, the bride would go OVER the koi pond!). But my parents have a very nice backyard that I like to hang out in. But I hate all of the bugs that crawl up on you when you’re on the grass. Shopdog doesn’t even like the grass that much, she hops up in one of the sturdy patio chairs. (And she’s weird, she likes to be out there with a leash, but not on the leader. Then she just barks and wants to go inside.) So, something I think would be awesome is an outdoor chaise lounge.

My aunt had a couple at her lake house, and there was nothing I loved more than waking up, eating eggs, and gathering my stuff to go lay out on the chaise lounge while listening to my CD player (I remember listening to a lot of two very different albums: Sarah McLachlan – Surfacing, ...
