I like the understated elegance in this particular dress, which has a princess look to it with a bit of a twist in that blush coloring. I imagine it will float around you so lovely!

Now, about a Mary Queen of Scots Costume wig… This will be hard.  I have to be honest! You’ll want to get a short red wig that has curly hair. And that could be a problem. Plus, to be Mary Queen of Scots, it really needs to be red and curly. And since that’s pretty impossible to find… I have a suggestion! Look for a red, curly wig that you like. Now, you could cut it, yes. Maybe Youtube has haircut tutorials… I don’t know. But what I’d suggest is using clips and bobby pins to clip the hair up to make it appear short. If it’s a very long wig, you can even try to do a hairstyle of the time period. Start by parting in the middle (if possible.)

This sequin dress is why I love Calvin Klein. It’s so effortless and easy and sexy without looking fussy or overworked. It oozes sex appeal, and yet it’s a semi-long dress! It has a flapper dress kind of feel to it, even though there’s no fringe. But it’s the right shape, cut, and length. This dress is definitely made for a party. The back is plain black, as to not overkill the sequined dress look.

It’s so, so very Alexander McQueen! But do me a favor, with a dress like this you have to show off the shoulders and what’s going on there, so you have to wear your hair pulled back/up. The back of this dress is sexy. To keep it from looking like a costume, don’t use red as an accent. Red takes the whole thing to a “matador” place. Use smokey eyes and a nude lip for your makeup. Black sandals or heels of any kind are going to work for you. I’d suggest a peep-toe pump. And no other jewelry than gold studs.

I love this dress because it gives you an overload of shine with the full skirt that’ll twirl like a dream, and then keeps the top half neutral so you don’t feel like a drag queen.

Doesn’t the model look like a blonde Michelle Trachtenberg? I know the sleeves are kind of flimsy, but they count. And the price is nice for this dress. It’s very hippie and/or boho chic.

It’s expensive, but can we just love on it for a second? It reminds me of what a doll would wear. Or what Aria Montgomery from Pretty Little Liars would wear.

This is much more affordable than the Juicy Couture dress, but has a lot of the same appeal.

Admittedly, there are different reasons for wanting to have a black dress with sleeves. I can think of three main reasons:

1. The weather.
2. You are self conscious about your upper arms.
3. You simply like that style. A short black dress with long bell sleeves of lace is pretty!

Depending on your reason, you’ll be looking for a different sort of dress.

UPDATE: I found an even better purse match at Mod Cloth. It’s the Sea for Yourself Bag in Foam (Green) or in Crash (Blue).

Her dress is unbuttoned and layered over a white t-shirt. Look for something like a floral chiffon dress. Mod Cloth has lots of dresses around the $50 mark that might work.  And yes, a floral dress may look sweet on its own, but when put together with other elements it toughens up. This particular dress has a built in brown vegan belt, ruffled neckline, and wooden button closed keyhole. I like the way Cassie’s dress is loose but she adds definition with the belt.

For more Cassie Blake style, you’ll want a nice leather jacket. GROAN – I know. They’re expensive! But you can shop around for a sale. This is an investment piece, and if you buy one that’s too cheap it’s likely going to look exactly that – cheap. You might have to save up for this piece. But it’ll be worth it and you’ll keep it literally forever.

Now. her boots almost look like rain boots. I opted for suede, rather than leather. And these have a slight green tone. Boots will be big for 2011, and boots in general are just great. Especially when they’re comfortable.

Accessories for this look include dangling earrings, layered simple necklaces, and tons of mismatched bracelets and bangles.

Cassie’s hair and makeup on The Secret Circle isn’t overly girly – she’s not polished to perfection. She’s natural, rustic, not at all prissy. That said, I’m positive she owns some lipgloss.
