Rizzoli and Isles Fashion: Dress like Maura Isles

We’ve gotten another Rizzoli & Isles fashion request, and who am I to deny it? If you aren’t already watching the show, you definitely should check it out. Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander are great actresses, and oh – Rizzoli & Isles clothing is often very stylish. (Maura Isles is my favorite. She has a pet tortoise, for crying out loud! Maura Isles is a fashion icon, too.)

The Closer Fashion: Smart and Polished

Ellen, 58, wrote to us about admiring the professional style that Kyra Sedgwick wears as Brenda Leigh Johnson on the TV show The Closer. She asked us about finding a contemporary look similar to the Brenda Leigh Johnson clothes on the show. Flowered sundresses aren’t Ellen’s thing at all, but she likes the polished suits (with pants or slim skirts), dresses and jackets. And we can do that, right?
It’s time to take a look at The Closer fashion! And this is great because not only do I enjoy the show, but I’ve previously interviewed the costume designer for The Closer - Greg LaVoi! (He was very nice and incredibly knowledgeable.)
For this request, I’m keeping in mind that our slim reader is under 5’5″. She noted that sometimes certain jackets will make her look shorter. And it’s true, if you’re short then certain items will overpower your frame becuase of the proportions. Eep! For this reason, I’m going to veer away from any billowy or roomy jackets, and go for structured fits.

On Hellcats, Ashley Tisdale plays the preppy and girly Savannah Monroe. She’s the captain of the Hellcats and full of pep! She likes to wear her school colors, gold jewelry, floral prints, girly colors like pink and purple, and anything pretty. Her Hellcats clothing will probably include a lot of blue and yellow, even when she’s not in uniform. You can see that in her blue and yellow floral dress that she wears in the pilot.

On the new TV series Hellcats (on The CW) Aly Michalka plays Marti Perkins. She’s a seriously edge, hip character with a bit of a tomboy streak. We’re going to look at what she wears when she’s not in her Hellcats uniform. While the series hasn’t premiered yet, there are episode stills out – and because I write about TV I’ve already gotten to see a screener of the first episode. (And it’s a really fun show, so I hope you plan to watch!)

As you know, we’re now taking requests for our style features (TV character, Celebrity or Fairy Tale Character.) Beverly, age 37, wrote to us about Jane Rizzoli of the TNT show Rizzoli & Isles. On the show, she’s played by Angie Harmon. We’ve covered Rizzoli’s style once before, which Beverly had seen. But she wanted a little more focus on Rizzoli’s tops, which she noted were “simple, but not plain.” Essentially she wanted some notes on finding great tops that weren’t just a t-shirt, but weren’t overly fancy. Dress like Demi Lovato for Less

Demi Lovato showed up looking beautiful to the ABC/Disney Summer Press Junket this year. I found a great, inexpensive black bandage skirt that you can wear several times over for many different looks. I really like this particular gray top (you can tuck or untuck it for this look) with the little bit of patterned detail it has. The idea is that because the skirt is so streamlined and tight, the top is billowy and loose. Don’t make the mistake of getting a fitted V-neck gray T-shirt and thinking it will work just as well. Once you’ve tucked in this top, you can pull it out a bit (Demi’s shirt is pulled out at the front part of both sides of her hips. It won’t make your hips look larger becuase the skirt is following the curve of them. If you’re self-conscious, you don’t have to tuck the shirt in at all.)

Dress Like Selena Gomez at the Teen Choice Awards 2010

Dress like Selena Gomez!
This was a really cute outfit that Selena Gomez wore to the 2010 Teen Choice Awards. She has a silky white dress with a boatneck neckline, and slit arms. (The heaviness of the sleeves is balanced by the shortness of the dress.) For extra fun, and because she IS young, the dress is backless.
Her shoes are like little woven baskets, and have a bit of a tribal feel. White she has no nail polish on her toenails (because nude on nude legs elongates you) she has dark purple nail polish on her hands. With a white clutch, and silver ring (on the middle finger), smokey eye makeup, nude gloss and dangly silver earrings, the look is both youthful and glam. Her hair has an extra deep and dramatic part, but then it’s made more fun with some tousled curls. (You can use a curling iron to recreate that look.)
It was hard to find a white dress with all of the right check-marks, but I fond a couple different options. The shoes were easier to find, and I found two different pairs that look like replica’s.

Modern Spin: How to Dress Like Alice (In Wonderland!)

So you wanna know how to dress like Alice in Wonderland, eh? Perfect! I only recently watched the 2010 version, and found myself a bit underwhelmed by it all. Maybe I’d hyped it up in my head too much? Either way, this is a beloved book series for many reasons. And when it comes to dressing like an iconic Alice in Wonderland, the one thing you must have is a blue dress!
I found two blue dresses that I both really liked for our Alice look, so I included them both. They both have a youthful spirit with lace accents. There’s a white rabbit for you on a pencil case, a teacup from the Mad Hatter’s tea party on a chain to wear as a necklace, and my favorite two items: a canvas bag with the Cheshire cat, and a pair of perfect black flats with bows on them.
If you wear some of these items, you’ll surely let other fans know you’re broadcasting your love for Alice. Try petting a pet cat and reading under a tree for the full effect. If you see a white rabbit, chase it! Keep your adventurous spirit well in tact at all times.
Covert Affairs Fashion: Dress like Joan Campbell

Joan Campbell on Covert Affairs wears lots of great dresses. These are usually solid colored, with modest necklines (boatneck and square are both popular for her) and a belt. The dresses usually are mid-calf length, and sleeveless. In the Covert Affairs episode “Communication Breakdown” Joan wears the dress she wears in her character promos.
And of course, you can’t forget the shoes. Covert Affairs shoes are always popular because we know they always wear nice shoes! Joan seems to favor black heels with closed toes (rounded), and slingback action. The heels are never too high. While Annie wears Louboutin‘s, Joan doesn’t seem to. Is this realistic? Probably not. Joan makes much more than Annie! And while you might want to argue that Joan doesn’t care about fashion as much as Annie, I think it’s clear that she does like to dress nice!

How to Dress Like Quinn from Glee in ‘Sectionals’

You guys asked for it, so we have Quinn Fabray up on our styling block! Ready to copy one of this Glee-gal’s looks?
For our first “How to dress like Quinn Fabray” post, I picked an outfit Quinn wore in the mid-season finale of Glee - “Sectionals.” As time goes on, she’s less in her cheerleading outfit (having been kicked out!) but her maternity clothing is usually very simple. This is an outfit that seems very simple, but actually has different elements to it that you might be drawn to.
I know Quinn looks glum in this picture, but it was the only one that really showed the outfit. And you'd be sad too, if you were her in this moment!
First off, the color palette is very innocent and simple (S-I-M-P-L-E.) She wears a white sundress with a yellow cardigan, and a yellow hair clip. Because of the yellow (which is a soft, pale – almost pastel color) opt for gold accessories rather than silver – such as with her gold cross necklace. She has soft pink lipbalm on, and her eyes have brown eyeshadow in the crease. (Brown and yellow look great together.)
