Best Children’s Books of the 80′s

These are the ones I remember best:

• Serendipity taught kids: Knowing who you really are will bring you happiness.
• Crabby Gabby taught kids: Having fun while playing a game is more important than winning.
• Gabby taught kids: Talking is fun, but listening is just as important.
• Leo the Lop Tail 4 taught kids: Adults can learn from the magic children have in their hearts.

These morals are actually great to remind myself about, even as an adult.

• Zippity Zoom: It is important to take the time to enjoy life.
• Tee Tee: You’re never alone when you know who you are.
• Morgan and Yew: Love is the most important possession we can have.
• Butterwings: Laughing at yourself can be the most fun of all.

Simple lessons, yes. But crucial to remember. We tell kids this stuff and somewhere along the line we forget we have to abide by these too. Believe in yourself, involve yourself, keep an open mind, etc.

I received the Rose Gold Skin iPad 2 Case to review. They also offer this case in a Brown Gold, Black, Black Gold, Purple and Turquoise. The cases all have textured snakeskin on them, which is quite posh. Aside from the look of the case, I also liked that the magnetic closure turns off my iPad instantly, and that there is a way to use the cover as a stand. (It says there are two angles that it folds open to, but I could only figure out one. I’d say you could use it to watch Netflix, but if you were going to be touching the screen it might slide a bit.)

My biggest issue with the case is that the inside cover doesn’t have any padding, and presses the snakeskin pattern against the iPad screen. Now, many cases don’t have inside padding. But I’m a bit of a worrywort, and my iPad is my baby. Without any padding, I can’t see the point in using this for travel. I’m also worried the snakeskin texture (which is uneven, as a snake is) might press against the screen unevenly and cause a fracture. To this end, I have glued foam padding on the inner cover. This does take away from the ability to be a stand or have a magnetic closure, of course. I think this Hang Accessories iPad case is trying to be like the Smart Cover that Apple makes, but it doesn’t offer enough angle varietes, has some spotty-looking construction around the back, and offers no real projection because it’s used a textured surface.

I do think the trolley bags at Hang Accessories look quite cute. At least. If you travel a lot that could be a stylish rolling case you’d love.

This oughta convince everyone that you’re pulled together!

I like the little bit of sheen here.

The red is probably my favorite. I just hope it’s not actually ombre, no one wants to have it look like their bag is dirty on the bottom.

The basic face is the same for all and only requires dots made with a sharpie. You’ll want to dye the top for the hair, and the bottom for the body or dress. (Or fin, as the case may be.) Then you can draw on (or paint on) the extras. You might even have some glitter paint for Cinderella’s dress. You’ll want to keep them forever!

This camera will also be on sale at WalMart for $49.99 on Black Friday. But that price is only good if you actually buy it at the store, in the store. Meh. That means getting up to wait in line at 4 a.m. with lots of crazy people who are hungry and tired (which will make them rude. ) I don’t want to brave actual stores on Black Friday, so I think the nearly 40% off of the Kodak Easyshare Camera with the Amazon price is definitely the better way for me to go.

Why do I like it? Three separate viewing angles? I’m sold. Haha, okay not SO fast. But this is so necessary! It’s for use with your iPad or ereader. Perfect for watching Netflix while you’re working at your computer, bored on a flight, or reading recipes while you cook in the kitchen. This is available in five different colors, small enough to fit in your purse, and the base is weighted so it doesn’t wobble. The Wall Street Journal has given this high, high praise. They seem pretty reputable, you know?

Why do I like it? It’s tiny, there’s color choices, there’s a 12 hour battery… but the reason this is better than the iPhone, for me is that you can buy an optional dock to make it like a little notebook. The keyboard dock (meaning you don’t have to get an additional dock) is $149 and seriously, an extra keyboard that folds out or something is pretty important for these tablets if you ever want to type more than a text message on them. So you knock out two birds with one stone. And unlike with the foldable keyboards, with this you get a touchpad, USB port, and SD card slot, even extra battery life. Me likey. Me likey a lot. This gets my pick for the tablet to get over any other.

Why do I like it? Because I was so upset when I heard poloroids were gone! But they’re back. And apparently they’re getting amazing reviews and Amazon can hardly keep them in stock. (Buy early!)

Why do I like it? Because I already have an iPad, I don’t need to buy a whole new tablet with a keyboard. This has decent reviews and looks like it will dock and give me the keyboard room I need to actually, you know, type. I looked into the Clam Case, but this one has better reviews.

Kindle Touch 3G – $149 – Amazon Link / Amazon Link with Special Offers
Why do I like it? If someone (like my Mom) only wants an ereader, then this is a good option. This has a built-in, totally free 3G connection so you can literally download books anywhere, anytime.

When I faked sick in high school I’d play the part even if no one was home, just in case I got caught not looking miserable. But do you know what good worries do? Nothing. I mean, they keep you vigilant and if life were like The Walking Dead, I’s probably want to stay pretty “on guard” like this. But as life its, without the zombie apocalypse, it’s really time for me to relax. As the movie says, “Leisure Rules.” So be a Ferris. My happy place is visualizing myself in Ferris’ backyard, with his attitude on life. Everything will be okay!

On the show, Brooke Davis married Julian Baker. They are a real life couple, and Sophia Bush actually helped design her characters wedding dress.

What do you think of it? The style of gown is a strapless tulle and lace mermaid wedding dress. It’s by BCBG Max Azaria. A crystal brooch accents her waist.

There’s a nice belt action going on. It’s strapless, of course. She’s got a veil, a jeweled headpiece, (two crystal headbands) and drop earrings.  For her wedding day hair she has a simple knotted or braided bun, but the headbands and veil dress this up for the special occasion.

The white dress has lots of ruffles and her bouquet has white flowers that look like white roses and white orchids. Maybe dogwood blossoms? I’m not sure, I’m not a flower guru.
