the shelf

If you could see exactly what all your friends are buying, wouldn’t you want to take a little sneak peek?

Well, that’s one of the things you get with TheShelf.com.

We’ve (this means you!) been asked to give some input on this new site. It’s in beta testing right now. This means that if you want it do something, you just have to suggest it and it might happen. Your opinions will help shape it, and if it’s a site you and others use in the future then you’ll be so happy that you did. You can see my thoughts below, and then hopefully you’ll offer your own two cents!

This is what I like about the site:

  • You can share your shelves of actual items you’re going to purchase with other friends, and they can help you decide what to get.
  • When an item goes on sale in  your size, you’ll get an alert.
  • You can stay organized.
  • It lets you organize your promo codes.
  • Possibly better than an Amazon Wish List for the fashionista set. Just click and e-mail it to your admirers!

My input on tweaks:

  • I’d like to be able to make my own categories for the shelf. But at lea ... Read More
  • Best Children’s Books of the 80′s – Serendipity Books

    Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

    pink dragon book

Children of the 80′s certainly must remember the pink dragon Serendipity books! This book series is best known to me for having unusual creatures and softcover books with fun covers with bright colors. (They all also had morals.) The books were written by Stephen Cosgrove and illustrated by Robin James.

They were written from the late 70′s, through the 80′s and into the 90′s.

You can buy older books for around $20 on Amazon, while new copies go for $100 or more.

Best Children’s Books of the 80′s

These are the ones I remember best:

    • Serendipity taught kids: Knowing who you really are will bring you happiness.
    • Crabby Gabby taught kids: Having fun while playing a game is more important than winning.
    • Gabby taught kids: Talking is fun, but listening is just as important.
    • Leo the Lop Tail 4 taught kids: Adults can learn from the magic children have in their hearts.

These morals are actually great to remind myself about, even as an adult.

Stylish iPad 2 Cases for Women and Stylish Rolling Laptop Bags

stylish ipad 2 cases for women

When it comes to stylish ipad (2) cases for women, you definitely might find yourself looking at the ones at Hang Accessories. And while I cannot recommend them, I can tell you my reasons for hesitance and you might still like them. (I also provided some pictures of soem very stylish rolling laptop bags you might like to see.)

I received the Rose Gold Skin iPad 2 Case to review. They also offer this case in a Brown Gold, Black, Black Gold, Purple and Turquoise. The cases all have textured snakeskin on them, which is quite posh. Aside from the look of the case, I also liked that the magnetic closure turns off my iPad instantly, and that there is a way to use the cover as a stand. (It says there are two angles that it folds open to, but I could only figure out one. I’d say you could use it to watch Netflix, but if you were going to be touching the screen it might slide a bit.)

My biggest issue with the case is that the inside cover doesn’t have any padding, and presses the snakeskin pattern against the iPad screen. Now, many cases don’t have inside padding. But I’m a bit of a worrywort, and my iPad is my b ... Read More

Creative Ways to Decorate Easter Eggs like Fairytale Characters

    Saturday, March 24th, 2012

    Source: http://californialemon.tumblr.com/post/4902309504/intoasylum-happy-easter

Given that everyone has fairytale fever, now is a great time to merge that into Easter activities. Why not decorate your eggs to look like your favorite characters? Take a look at the images below. We’ve got

    • Snow White
    • Alice in Wonderland
    • Sleeping Beauty
    • Ariel from The Little Mermaid

The basic face is the same for all and only requires dots made with a sharpie. You’ll want to dye the top for the hair, and the bottom for the body or dress. (Or fin, as the case may be.) Then you can draw on (or paint on) the extras. You might even have some glitter paint for Cinderella’s dress. You’ll want to keep them forever!

Where’s Your Happy Place? Here’s One of Mine that Works

    Ferris Bueller poster

I will admit this…begrudgingly… I’m a Type A, perfectionist who has a world of trouble trying to relax. It just seems impossible. I’m very high strung, and it makes me pretty unpleasant unless I actively try to combat my anxious feelings about everything in life. So, when it comes to CALMING DOWN, I look to my role model – the fictional character of Ferris Bueller. He knew how to live life. It’s pretty impossible to pick a favorite scene from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, but I’ve always loved how shamelessly Ferris faked sick, then sat outside in the sun with a tropical drink and his phone.

When I faked sick in high school I’d play the part even if no one was home, just in case I got caught not looking miserable. But do you know what good worries do? Nothing. I mean, they keep you vigilant and if life were like The Walking Dead, I’s probably want to stay pretty “on guard” like this. But as life its, without the zombie apocalypse, it’s really time for me to relax. As the movie says, “Leisure Rules.” So be a Ferris. My happy place is visualizing myself in Ferris’ backyard, with his attitude on life. Everything will be okay!

    What’s your happy place?
