grow eyelashes longer

We have a great Lashem giveaway for you readers! They are offering up their Measurable Difference Lash Gel.

UPDATE: We tested Lashem and it was not good. Even the company is vicsious with their claws out. We no longer recommend this product. It does not work, and it can give you possibly horrible side effects.

Grow your eyelashes longer with LASHEM

If you want to grow your eyelashes longer, you may want a Latisse alternative. Why? How much does Latisse cost? It costs approximately $100 (and usually upwards of that) for a 2 month supply. (Source: Harold J. Kaplan, MD – Los Angeles Facial Plastic Surgeon) Meanwhile, Lashem costs $69.99, lasts 3 months or more,  and a portion of their proceeds go to Think Pink Rocks for breast cancer research and treatment. It’s clear which is the better deal – Measurable Difference Lash Gel by Lashem!

Katherine Pierce Hair and Makeup on The Vampire Diaries

Saturday, December 4th, 2010

katherine pierce hair

Katherine Pierce’s makeup isn’t too vampy, even though she’s a vampire on The Vampire Diaries.

Hot Tools Professional 1110 Curling Iron with Multi-Heat Control, Mega 1-1/4"

FACE: Subtle rose blush on the apples of her cheeks (smile and you’ll see them!) and some contouring powder from the edge of her face inward under her cheekbones.

EYES: She wears smokey black eyeliner that’s a little heavy on her upper lids and black mascara. To get this look, apply your black eyeliner and then go over it with a dark eyeshadow color. I always do this as it “sets” the liner so it doesn’t smudge any further. When I do this I can often skip an eye primer if I want to (my mineral makeup works great over the lid as a base anyway.)

Use matte or satin eyeshadows, nothing with shimmer. She pairs eyeshadows like beige and dark brown in her crease. The trick: think of the neutral brown you’d see on Elena and then go a tad darker. Try a matte dark shadow like Pretty Pansy by Eve Organics. It’s not black, but there’s ... Read More

Two of the BEST Makeup Brushes for Mineral Makeup

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

eco tools

Now that I’ve gotten into mineral makeup, I realized that my collection of normal makeup brushes might not be right for me anymore. But…what brushes do you use with mineral makeup? Well, one brand that women online buzz about is EcoTools, so I was interested in them. Especially because this is a line offered at places like Target and (read between the lines: affordable!) They offer good quality brushes (that’s my experience) at inexpensive prices. I’m totally down for that!

I was sent the EcoTools BAMBOO Angled Eyeliner Brush and EcoTools BAMBOO Deluxe Concealer Brush to review. Both are earth-friendly makeup brushes made from sustainable bamboo (for the handles), 100% cruelty-free, soft taklon bristles, recycled aluminum ferrule and they all come with a sturdy storage pouch that you can reuse over and over again.

Supergoop Review (Paraben Free Lotion + Water Resistant Lotion)

Monday, October 18th, 2010

supergoop review

I recently had the chance to try the Supergoop SPF 30+ Everyday UV Moisturizing Sun Protection Lotion for Faces & Hands. While I can’t say that five time fast (no way, dudes), I can tell you what I thought of the lotion.

What’s important to know is that this is a paraben free lotion with vitamins A, C & A,  SPF 30, safe for all ages (even as young as 4 months) and is made to be “very water resistant.” I’m very interested in the idea of water resistant lotion, since it seems like as soon as I put the lotion on I’m washing my hands for something.

This has no fragrance which is great for girls who know they want to wear perfume, and it’s also great because then MALES will wear it! The bottle isn’t girly looking at all – it’s white with some yellow, navy blue and gray. Neither your little boy or husband will think it’s sissy to use.

The SPF 30 makes it great to use in summer, but also winter (especially if you or your kids do outdoor winter sports/activities like sledding.) Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean the sun’s rays aren’t hitting you.

Plus! No animal testing is done!

You can buy this product at Supergoop, ... Read More

Mission Skincare Review: Paraben Free Lotion

Monday, October 18th, 2010

paraben free lotion

Never one to snub my nose at a new lotion, I eagerly tried some Mission Skincare Energizing Hand + Body Moisturizer with SPF 18. It said it was “athlete engineered,” but I figure that even if I’m not an athlete I can certainly benefit from the same stuff as them!

This paraben free lotion is indeed tested by athletes, and NEVER tested on animals. (Yay! I was going to write “score” but thought that might seem like a sporty pun…) It is “enriched with M-10 Complex of Vitamins (Vitamins A, B, C, D3, E and K) and Antioxidants (Goji, Acai, Pomegranate and Cranberry.)” On top of that, it provides both SPF 18 UVA protection as well as UVB sun ray protection.

Sidebar: What’s the deal with UVA vs. UVB. Well, I had to do some googling! The sun has wave particles in both UVB and UVA form. The UVA wave rays are the longer ones, and can get into your skin deeper. The UVA rays deep in skin cause structural damage, you could say – like causing wrinkles and freckles. It can also lead to malignant cancer. The UVB rays are shorter and get caught in your skin’s upper crust, and is what causes skin cancer. UVB is protected by sunscreen, and UVA is protected by sunblock.

It retails for under $10 and is available at ... Read More

EOS Evolution of Smooth Review (Chemical Free Lip Balm!)

Sunday, October 17th, 2010

chemical free lip balm

When it comes to skincare and lipcare, what is the one word that really defines what you WANT? I’ll tell you what I want: smooth! Smooth skin and smooth lips! It should come as no surprise, then, that I’m a fan of the brand EOS (Evolution of Smooth.)

I became a fan only very recently, when I was sent a couple of their products to review.  I’d never used their stuff before. Now, because I am crazy-super adamant about applying lotion and lip balm both before bed, and after showers, you can never miss an opportunity to discover another quality brand that will give you what you need from your beauty products.

Whether you’re intrigued by the hype surrounding the product, or the cuteness of the packaging, your curiosity will be rewarded! My results were positive.

Evolution of Smooth, Lip Balm – Smooth Sphere: There are five flavors. And if I learned anything from those silly commercials about people in the Winter Olympics, we need SPF care even in the winter. The sphere is like a little futuristic pod, and you might expect aliens to pop out of it. Luc ... Read More

Avanti Ultra Review: Wet to Dry Flat Iron

wet to dry hair straightener reviews

Frizzy hair has been OUT since the 80’s, and sometimes you just want ultra smooth hair. That’s where the genius of a hair straightener comes in. Before these were popular, I knew a girl in high school who would literally take an iron to her hair! (Which I guess is creative, but also seems like it was dangerous.)

The Flat Iron Experts sent me the Avanti Ultra, Wet to Dry Nano-Titanium, Nano-Silver and Nano-Ceramic Digital Flat Iron (1″ inch) AV-TITAN Nano Croc. For short, we just call it the Avanti Ultra Wet to Dry Flat Iron. Easy, peasy. And using it was equally as easy…and…peasy? Sure!

I love the idea of not needing to wait for completely dry hair. With this, you can use it on wet hair, and they say you can even expect some steam to happen. But you aren’t supposed to use it on straight-from-the-shower hair that’s dripping wet. No, no, no! You should let your hair dry a bit first, especially near your roots.

I don’t think the straightening process really begins until your hair IS kinda dry, so if you spend a lot of time using it to dry your hair R ... Read More
