Wake Up with Orange Shower Gels

red flower orange

Oranges by audreyjm529 on Flickr.

We drink orange juice in the morning out of habit. But it might actually have more to it than that. That good ol’ Vitamin C is so important. And why is VC so good? Lots of studies show it can improve mental clarity and even your mood. Citrus fruits wake up your mind. They can also wake up your body. And even the aroma of a citrus fruit will work.

I hate waking up early, but the one thing I know to do is drag myself into a hot shower right away. The one thing I’ve learned that can help me from just standing there under the water and ‘thinking’ is to use scented bodywash. Because otherwise I seriously will stand there for FAR too long, procrastinating even on washing my hair. It always reminds me of a scene from Family Ties where the youngest blonde daughter gets yelled at for taking such long showers and she announces, ... Read More

Kristen Bell Beauty Secrets! Lip Tips from Kristen Bell

Rosebud Salve

Kristen Bell

While doing Couples Retreat interviews with Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell said that she loves Rosebud Salve and the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Stick. While I love lip products with SPF (skin protecting filter!) I really adore Mary Kay Satin Lips, because it really makes my lips feel all moisturized. It moisturizes lips for 6 hours so it’s something to wear while you sleep, if like me, you sleep with a fan on. Then in the day you can wear your SPF lip balm products, yay!

If you aren’t afraid to take a trip to the past, Kristen Bell has also said to Marie Claire magazine that she loves C.O.Bigelow Mentha LipBalm. She said,”This has SPF and makes your breath smell nice.” And for over the lip balm? Fresh lip gloss in Sugar Desire and Fusion Beauty Lip Gloss. The latter one is expensive fo ... Read More

The Headache Cure that Smells Great (Hint: It’s Lavender!)

Lavender Oil

by papertissue on tumbler

I really did used to love gumballs, and getting the white gumball from a machine was pretty much the worst feeling EVER. But recently I’ve been having all of these headaches which are almost migraines (and sometimes migraines, but not usually). And I gotta tell you, the best feeling is when a constant headache finally goes awaaaaay and I can think again without all of this pressure on my head from a dreaded sinus headache. I’ve tried different over the counter medications for headaches, and even gone to the doctor and gotten prescription medication for migraines. When you have a headache you don’t want to think about any of that, you just want to know what works and how fast you can get it into your system.

Other things I’ve tried have been more homeopathic remedies. A headache cure that I swear by is using my sense of smell to make the headache go bye, bye, bye (N*sync style). For me, sometimes the best headache treatment is a homeopathic treatment. Although I definitely would not recommend putting a cayenne pepper paste up your nose ... Read More

Billie Piper “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” Styles to Steal

Max Studio on sale for $50

Secret Diary of a Call Girl

Billie Piper is someone I loved on Doctor Who, and now I love her on Secret Diary of a Call Girl. The show is NOT as dirty as it sounds. It’s not PG, of course. It’s like Sex and the City, and who didn’t love that show? Well some people didn’t. And I didn’t like the Sex and the City movie.. but I digress!

Showtime put together a cute website for Secret Diary of a Call Girl, which included a style section. They show stuff Billie Piper’s character actually wore on the show. And I went through it to show you what stuff on the list is affordable in some way. Most of it is way too much, but you might be surprise ... Read More

Steal Rachel Bilson’s Cheap Beauty Favorites

rachel bilson lucky

I love Girl With a Satchel’s Erica, and I especially loved what she said about the new Lucky Magazine cover with Rachel Bilson: “…while Rachel Bilson is pretty but won’t steal your boyfriend’s attention”. I also love Rachel Bilson. With so much love, why am I cranky?

Well, most of the fashionable items that Bilson told Lucky she likes are super expensive. Of course, I’m used to that with this magazine – or magazines in general. But if you really want something that Rachel Bilson covets, what can you get? Beauty products are less expensive than the leather jacket she’s selected, so let’s look at those.

Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara in Black – $8.  Bilson tells Lucky Magazine, “I love this mascara from Neutrogena. I put it on in the morning and never have to think about.” This seems to be a very popular mascara, I’d try it for sure.  ... Read More

Who says you only need one writing utencil in your bun?!

Who says you only need one writing utencil in your bun?! Photo by Evil_Erin on Flickr

Jeanie Syfu is a TRESemme celebrity stylist who attended New York Fashion Week and looked at the hair trends for us. She focused on what hair styles to do and how to create the hair style with styling products. I won’t be taking ALL  of her advice, but some is fairly helpful.

You see, there is a bit of a translation you need to do when you get hair advice on TV/magazines. Those people are in a different environment, with lots of money, and they also have to plug their products most of the time. So, I listen to what they say and then translate it to apply for real life  functionality.

She says: Good hair styles include messy buns with controlled ‘front hair’. Use one big simple hair accessory. Try disheveled hair textures, ... Read More

The Secret Weapon You Will Love : Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream

cuticle cream

It might sound good enough to eat, but the Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream by Burt’s Bees is not edible. It does smell really incredible, though. Delicious, actually. Beware! Anyway,  if you’re anything like me, dealing with your cuticles is a  MEGA pain. And with Winter coming up that means all skin will be even dryer – I’m not a fan of that! Luckily, I gave in to an impulse buy (sometimes these are very disappointing!) and discovered this cuticle cream.

The great thing is that it’s not JUST cuticle cream. You can use this anywhere you need some extra moisture. It’s great for any dry patches on your skin, or the areas that tend to be driest on your skin like your elbows and ankles. This stuff absolutely WORKS. I slather it on before bed and when I wake up my cuticles feel perfectly smooth (bye hangnails!), as does any skin I applied it to.  I can almost feel my skin drink the cream up and sigh happily, ‘aaaaah’.

I’d all but given up on finding a product that would really work to moisturize my cuticles, and I’m very surprised it ended up bei ... Read More
