Fall Boots on Sale: the Triumphant Knit Dolcezza Boot

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

knit boots women

I was at the colorful (mostly junior’s) shop Pastry and came across a pair of wonderful fall boots on sale. I presence for consideration: Dolcezza Boot – Yellow/Camel

These are knit boots with a suede upper and a bow with a jewel. (Not totally crazy about the jewel.) Because of the heel (and the colors) I’d wear these in the fall, not winter. And there’s something about them that makes me really like them. I’d want to call them my “Butter Boots.” With the knit upper’s, you could wear these easily over most leggings, skinny pants, skinny jeans aka jeggings, thick tights, etc, etc, etc!

They also have them in another color combination that I think would be fun for Christmas, Dolcezza Boot – Black/Red:

I think these are for if you REALLY want to show off your Christmas spirit. I love that little red color ... Read More

Dress like Demi Lovato for Less

dress like demi lovato

Demi Lovato showed up looking beautiful to the ABC/Disney Summer Press Junket this year. I found a great, inexpensive black bandage skirt that you can wear several times over for many different looks. I really like this particular gray top (you can tuck or untuck it for this look) with the little bit of patterned detail it has. The idea is that because the skirt is so streamlined and tight, the top is billowy and loose. Don’t make the mistake of getting a fitted V-neck gray T-shirt and thinking it will work just as well. Once you’ve tucked in this top, you can pull it out a bit (Demi’s shirt is pulled out at the front part of both sides of her hips. It won’t make your hips look larger becuase the skirt is following the curve of them. If you’re self-conscious, you don’t have to tuck the shirt in at all.)

Demi paired her outfit with some bangles and ... Read More

Dress Like Selena Gomez at the Teen Choice Awards 2010

Dress like Selena Gomez!

Dress like Selena Gomez!

This was a really cute outfit that Selena Gomez wore to the 2010 Teen Choice Awards. She has a silky white dress with a boatneck neckline, and slit arms. (The heaviness of the sleeves is balanced by the shortness of the dress.) For extra fun, and because she IS young, the dress is backless.

Her shoes are like little woven baskets, and have a bit of a tribal feel. White she has no nail polish on her toenails (because nude on nude legs elongates you) she has dark purple nail polish on her hands. With a white clutch, and silver ring (on the middle finger), smokey eye makeup, nude gloss and dangly silver earrings, the look is both youthful and glam. Her hair has an extra deep and dramatic part, but then it’s made more fun with some tousled curls. (You can use a curling iron to recreate that look.)

It was hard to find a white dress with all of the right check-marks, but I fond a couple different options. The shoes were easier to find, and I found two different pairs that look like replica’s.

Modern Spin: How to Dress Like Alice (In Wonderland!)

dress like alice in wonderland

So you wanna know how to dress like Alice in Wonderland, eh? Perfect! I only recently watched the 2010 version, and found myself a bit underwhelmed by it all. Maybe I’d hyped it up in my head too much? Either way, this is a beloved book series for many reasons. And when it comes to dressing like an iconic Alice in Wonderland, the one thing you must have is a blue dress!

I found two blue dresses that I both really liked for our Alice look, so I included them both. They both have a youthful spirit with lace accents. There’s a white rabbit for you on a pencil case, a teacup from the Mad Hatter’s tea party on a chain to wear as a necklace, and my favorite two items: a canvas bag with the Cheshire cat, and a pair of perfect black flats with bows on them.

If you wear some of these items, you’ll surely let other fans know you’re broadcasting your love for Alice. Try petting a pet cat and reading under a tree for the full effect. If you see a white rabbit, chase it! Keep your adventurous spirit well in tact at all times.

Covert Affairs Fashion: Dress like Joan Campbell

COVERT AFFAIRS -- Season:1 -- Pictured: Kari Matchett as Joan Campbell -- Photo by: Robert Ascroft/USA Network

Joan Campbell on Covert Affairs wears lots of great dresses. These are usually solid colored, with modest necklines (boatneck and square are both popular for her) and a belt. The dresses usually are mid-calf length, and sleeveless. In the Covert Affairs episode “Communication Breakdown” Joan wears the dress she wears in her character promos.

And of course, you can’t forget the shoes. Covert Affairs shoes are always popular because we know they always wear nice shoes! Joan seems to favor black heels with closed toes (rounded), and slingback action. The heels are never too high. While Annie wears Louboutin‘s, Joan doesn’t seem to. Is this realistic? Probably not. Joan makes much more than Annie! And while you might want to argue that Joan doesn’t care about fashion as much as Annie, I think it’s clear that she does like to dress nice!

Joan wears sheath dresses, which are dresses with tight fits that accentuate the waist and other c ... Read More

Dress like Quinn from Glee!

You guys asked for it, so we have Quinn Fabray up on our styling block! Ready to copy one of this Glee-gal’s looks?

For our first “How to dress like Quinn Fabray” post, I picked an outfit Quinn wore in the mid-season finale of Glee – “Sectionals.” As time goes on, she’s less in her cheerleading outfit (having been kicked out!) but her maternity clothing is usually very simple. This is an outfit that seems very simple, but actually has different elements to it that you might be drawn to.

I know Quinn looks glum in this picture, but it was the only one that really showed the outfit. And you'd be sad too, if you were her in this moment!

First off, the color palette is very innocent and simple (S-I-M-P-L-E.) She wears a white sundress with a yellow cardigan, and a yellow hair clip. Because of the yellow (which is a soft, pale – almost pa ... Read More

"Red Riding Hood" (1865) John Everett Millais (1829-1896) English Oil on canvas

Here’s our fun piece on how to dress like the infamous, and incredibly brave, Little Red Riding Hood. And – gasp – we don’t even have a red cape in the mix! Nope. Because do you really want to wear a COSTUME? Nu uh. We looked at some red jackets, coats, capes, capelets and even bolero’s – but nothing looked quite right.

"Red Riding Hood" (1865) John Everett Millais (1829-1896) English Oil on canvas

This is a fall/winter look – and could easily be paired with the red coat of your choice. If you stick to the colors red with a black and gray, or browns – you’ll do fine. Accessorize with some wolf jewelry – we found a cute gold ring wolf ring that looks a little ferocious. With snazzy red lips you’ll be channeling a powerful feeling. The studded gloves seemed very fairytale to me, ... Read More

how to make face look thinner with makeup

It really only takes a minute to make your face look thinner. Or slimmer, or longer Рwhatever you want to call it. Whether you have a round face shape simply from biology and want a longer face look, or you have weight insecurities  Рthere are plenty of reasons to want to utilize ways to make your face look slimmer.

I’m going to focus on one way, which is the easiest way as far as I’m concerned. But let’s make note of the variety of easily attainable ways.

  • Modify your hair.
  • Modify your makeup.
  • Modify your jewelry.
How to make a face look thinner with your hair cut/color/style:

With the right hair cut, you can take weight from your face. And I know you must be curious about how to make your face look slimmer! Who isn’t? (You’d be surprised – plenty of girls think their faces are too skinny, gaunt, or long!) The idea for slimming¬† is to let your hair accent and cover the edges of your face. This is why the ideal hair cut here has layers that you slightly curl under towards the face. For hair style ideas, pulling the shortest loose pieces down to frame your face works wonders (or at least helps ... Read More
