Style Inspirations! Whitney Port’s Silver Party Look

I was watching The City on MTV.com the other night and Whitney Port was in an outfit I LOVED. To recreate the look all you need is a silver dress, pearl earrings, pink lipstick, and black nail polish. The beauty products are easier to find, but you can shop around for the silver dress and pearl earrings. I did some shopping online for you and now I’ll share with you what I found. The thing about the pearl earrings that’s important is that they have a little more to them than just being pearl earrings. You’ll see what I mean.

Sparkly Dresses on Sale (Inspiration: Matthew Williamson Sequined Cocktail Dress)

I may not be a Miley Cyrus fan, but I do like the dress Miley wears in Sex and the City movie 2. Which is a lame move title. Anyway, she’s not the only one who wears the dress, Samantha wears it too. The dress is already in hot demand but after the movie actually plays in theaters it’ll be in even more high demand. As pretty as I think the Matthew Williamson Fall 2009 Futuristic Sequin Cocktail Dress IS, I’m probably not going to fork out the money for it. You can see the Futuristic Sequin Cocktail Dress that is in Sex and the City 2, above. But let’s look at some more realistic options! Because one thing has become clear to me, sparkly party dresses are going to be major.

Jenna Fisher looks fantastic on the cover of Shape Magazine.
Jenna Fisher (The Office) is on the cover of Shape magazine tight now. While she has inspiring things to say to the magazine, I was more inspired (or at least, more touched) by what she posted in her official MySpace Blog. (I didn’t even know she had one!) While I’m a huge fan of The Office, I haven’t followed the actresses personal life very closely. It turns out she had fractured her back (in 4 places) in a fall and was not allowed to do any exercise for a long time. Shortly after that she separated from her husband, so naturally she was going through a very difficult emotional time where I’m sure she craved comfort food.

If you’re like me you have really great mango lotion, and you don’t think that you like Sci Fi. But let me refresh your memory (and mine) and show you that we actually DO like some sci fi stuff. Because Amazon has dvds on sale where Sci Fi DVDs (or Blu-Ray) is on sale up to 55% off, now is a great time to shop for yourself or for others in terms of Christmas gifts. Early Christmas sales make life so much easier as long as you’re willing to shop early for Christmas.

Marilyn Monroe Fashion for Parties

I’ve put together two party looks for a fun, flirty party this winter 09. Each look was inspired by glamor, kind of like Marilyn Monroe. But updated for a modern party girl who likes the golden age of Hollywood. You’ll see that I paired a satin corset (one is a pleated corset and one is a ruched corset but both are from Charlotte Russe!) with a fun black skirt. One black skirt is a mesh tiered number by Forever 21, and the other is a bubble skirt from Forever 21. Each look got a faux fur shrug, a tiara element (either an actual tiara or a clip for the hair with a tiara symbol), nail polish and black liquid eyeliner.
Black liquid eyeliner is great for a glamorous look, especially for parties. Singer Taylor Swift is always using black eyeliner (winged just a bit out on the edges) on just the tops of her eyelids. Sometimes you really have to put your pet before yourself. I mean, even in the ways you wouldn’t think to! See, I have a new piece of furniture and I really don’t want my cat scratching on it – and she already had tried. (Bad kitty!) One of the things I’ve bought for her before is one of those scratch boxes with the catnip you sprinkle on it. But that box was old news (all destroyed) so I needed a new one. Since I am one who shops smart, I look for the cheapest option that still looks decent. I thought I’d found it with a certain scratch box. And it even seemed better because this particular cat scratching box you could flip over and have used again. And I was sold by how the box was decorative and had little yellow tassels. The entire packaging, logo and branding process was so cute. Plus it was natural and recyclable and who doesn’t want eco-friendly pet stuff? So I happily bought this from the pet store and went home thinking it was going to be the best purchase EVER.

Become a Hollywood glamazon by adding some shimmer to your eyes. And this means MORE than just some shimmery white eyeshadow highlighting your browbone . That’s amateur hour. What I’m talking about is something with WOW effect.
I know that with holiday parties coming just around the corner you’ll want to do something different with your eyes. Rather than labor in front of the mirror for hours and come up with nothing different – or having tried to go SO different that it looks so bad you have to wash your face and start over – I’ve come with some tips to get metallic eyes.
Just do a swipe of a liquid eyeliner on your top lids for some pizzaz. Or use new Mascaras from Cover Girl that have the slightest hint of metallic in them to make your eyes POP. Want more drama? Try doing your entire top lid in gold shadow! A cheaper brand that has HIGH pigment in their eye products is the L’Oreal HIP line. I’ve used many of their products and I really like them. Whether you’re using metallic eyeshadow, metallic eyeliner or metallic eye makeup of any kind…you’re going to look stunning.

Important EDIT: Christian Siriano just announced on Oprah that everything he has done for Payless is 50% off. Go to Oprah.com to find the Payless store nearest you and to get the coupon. There ARE a few things that might be nice but a smart shopper knows that even though something is suddenly only $15.00 doesn’t make it a good purchase if you still don’t love it. I suspect this coupon rouse might be because his items aren’t selling.
Christian Siriano is doing shoes for Payless, which is instantly a mood-lifter. (He was the winner of Project Runway, remember?) Except…well, until you SEE the shoes. I’m torn. First off, the shoes and boots Siriano has done look very much like the ones designer Rodarte did a while ago. But my biggest problem is that I’m not sure if many of these shoe designs are wearable for the every day woman. One might argue that the reason they’re so affordable (all of these shoes are under $50) but still funky is that you’ll buy them just for special occasions.
