Picture from everythingsright.com
Most people see this above quote and think about the people they love in their lives. I see it, and think about the stuff in my place that understands me as the complicated and unique individual that I am. That’s right. It’s not that I don’t love people, I just also love and appreciate the stuff I have that it often feels like I could not do without.
1. A cute humidifier, because I don’t want dry skin but also don’t want ugly things in my room.
2. Satin pillowcases, because it helps eliminate frizz in your hair. It’s an indulgence, yes. (Betty Dain Sleepwear Satin Pillowcase @ Amazon $20.23)
3. A sound machine ... Read More
Jean Paul Gaultier for Target
Friday, January 15th, 2010
We don’t have the prices, but we do finally have pictures of the pieces for the Jean Paul Gaultier line for Target, courtesy of of refinery29. But what will be worth buying, if it’s affordable for you? I’ll be talking you through my picks, although it is always up to your personal style.
In this row I am most excited about that little black ‘wear it with anything’ vest, as well as that first dress which has ‘boho summery relaxation’ written all over it.
The middlehas this gorgeous form-fitting red dress, and the most perfectly playful jacket layered over it. I love both of those pieces. But I highly suggest you try on the dress, as the middle panel section may fit some body types oddly.

Electronic 26-Game Dart Board soft tip with Backlit Display $49.99
I’ve never wanted a super-secret batcave, but if I ever had a secret lair I’d definitely want a dart board. Knowing how to do that is kind of a sexy skill and you can impress people with your talent at aiming. I think you need to go for the real deal, or the soft darts. But magnetic darts? Don’t even bother with them unless you have kids and are afraid the soft darts aren’t soft enough.
Games like these aren’t just for the boys. And buying a dart board is a great alternative to buying a pool table. While some websites might have you believe that the only dart boards worth buying are worth hundreds ... Read More
To Roku or Not to Roku? That is the Question!
Tuesday, January 12th, 2010
Roku, you sly little box. I’m intrigued by you, I’ll admit it. Like everyone on the planet, I have a Netflix subscription. And I love the ‘Netflix Instant Watch’ feature. So then I hear about this Roku thing. And at first I’m like ‘Uh, Roku you, jerk!’ because I had no idea what it was and wanted to seem tough. But I did a little googling and found that Roku is simply a little black box you use to stream movies to your TV via Netflix. Well, that sounds nice enough.
As we love to do on ShesSmart.com, I went to see what the Amazon.com reviews for Roku were. As of the date I’m writing this, there are 254 five star reviews out of 374 reviews total. That’s a lot of people being pleased with this product.
Roku boasts these features:
- Start watching movies on your TV in seconds using your high-speed Internet connection
- Instantly plays the entire Netflix Instant Watch library with your Netflix membership – no additional subscription required, viewing is unlimited
- Instantly plays over 45,000 movies and shows from Amazon Video On Demand
- Built-in wireless (Wi-Fi) and wired internet connectivity
- Plays High Definition as well as DVD-quality vid ... Read More
The Vampire Diaries Girls Get Lippy
Wednesday, January 6th, 2010
The January issue of InStyle has dark red lips for you, as modeled by the female cast members of The Vampire Diaries. Of course, there’s one person in the mix who is long since gone from the show!
I have my own personal lippy recommendations!:
For Fair Skin: Cover Girl Outlast Lipstain in in Plump Out #410 (Like a raspberry stain on your lips. I own this.) For Medium Skin: Estee Lauder All Day Lipstick in Cinnamon Stick (Not as dark as the ones they choose for Kayla Ewell, but very wearable and easily layered. I own this. It is especially great when layered with ... Read More

Comfort food for the winter. Photo by quinnanya on Flickr.
ShesSmart.com asked entrants of our recent “Cook or Be Cooked” Wii game giveaway what food they liked to make. We’ve selected some of our favorite suggested recipes that seem easy and delish. We thank you all for your recommendations!
Potatoes! Reader Jennifer from Ohio suggested the recipe Company’s Coming Make-Ahead Potatoes to us. With all of this snow, it seems like a good time for such a indulgent and hot dish. It reminds us of twice-baked potatoes.

Did You Hear About SJP’s Trench Coat?
Friday, January 1st, 2010
The new movie with Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant Did You Hear About the Morgans? doesn’t have a soundtrack, but it has a lot of amazing music. All sorts of old, classic tunes. And it’s smart to educate on great music that isn’t on the top 40 radio stations (not that we listen to much radio these days). There are 23 songs in the movie, and here they are:
Fools – Diane Birch Concerto for Oboe And Orchestra In C Major, K.314 – Vienna Mozart Ensemble Going Up the Country – Canned Heat Twang – George Strait Rollin And Tumblin – Bob Dylan True Love Ways – Buddy Holly Attack on The Indian Village From The Searchers – Max Steiner Why Don’t You Love Me – Hank Williams Sr. The Long Message – Clyde Lawrence I’ve Got You Memorized – Ivy Midnight Rider – The Allman Brothers Band Please Don’t Leave Me – Vic Clay and the Retro Wranglers Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea – George Harrison Saturday Night – Bay City Rollers What To Do With Michael – Candy Butchers Harry’s Juke Box From Dirty Harry – Lalo Schifrin Dance Tonight – Paul McCartney Redneck Woman – Gracie Bea Lawrence Crazy Little Thing Called Love – Gracie ... Stunning, One-of-a-Kind Lady Gaga Dolls
Monday, December 28th, 2009
Veik11 is all we know this doll designer as, but they’ve gotten very popular with their doll designs for Lady Gaga dolls. These are strictly unofficial Lady Gaga dolls, and they seem to use Barbies as bases. The designer has taken the crazy looks we associate with Gaga the most, and recreated them for the Barbie Gaga.
Veik writes on his Flickr, “thanks so much for beiing here on my flickr..where i share my Lady GaGa dolls pix ..curently i have no plan of selling them ..i just advocate DIY ..some pix of mine here with tutorial of how i made some dolls ….u can check them out and create ur onw GaGa dolls.”
Veik, we salute you for your patience and for being so inspired! Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to take a cue from Lady Gaga and incorporate more ... Read More
What’s Big and Yellow and with Carrie Underwood?
Sunday, December 27th, 2009
It's hard not to notice something in this picture. Photo by Sean Kilpatrick/The Canadian Press/AP
I don’t pay a ton of attention to Carrie Underwood because country music just isn’t my thang. I know she’s a cute blonde and that she’s been rockin’ a killer engagement ring. Underwood is engaged to Mike Fisher who is part of the Ottowa Senators (which could really be a political activist party or a hockey team – whichever)
What we know about Carrie Underwood’s engagement ring is that the yellow diamond ring was designed especially for her by jeweler Johnathon Arndt. We also know that the rock is HUGE, as you can pretty much see it from space.
Yellow diamonds are very popular choices for engagement rings these days. (But also for any occasion – yellow diamonds are just plain popular!) I’m more of a fan of yellow diamond earring selections, though. Many people are surprised to know that Audrey Hepburn had a special connection to ... Read More
Lingerie for your Toes: Yay or Nay?
Sunday, December 27th, 2009
The idea of lingerie for my toes gives me the impulse to laugh. I don’t have a foot fetish and I don’t plan on starting one. Sure, I’ll paint my toenails like any other gal – but to go out of my way to decorate my toes in other ways? Hell, I don’t even wear toe rings because I think they can look tacky. But Voet Hosiery is an interesting concept, at the very least.
The idea is that toe cleavage (whether the front part of your toes, or the cracks of the tops of your toes) is unsightly and should be hidden! (As a matter of taste, not by law.) Personally I think the entire point of a peeptoe pump is to show the toes…but I’m with them on the top-toe cleavage! Little lace footies are all it takes to wear and make a new statement with your shoes.
I like the basic white “Gloria”, the eggplant”Rita” and the black/pink “Maria”. All of these have scalloped tops and I think they look very sweet. They are $15.00 each.Whether they’re comfortable to wear? I’d lean a bit towards “no”. ... Read More
