How to improve your mood in an instant | Mood-Lites review

You know that colors can greatly influence your mood, but are you harnessing that knowledge? I’m proud to say that I’m making steps to do just that. For instance, a few months ago I painted my bedroom walls a calming, restorative green. Something I hadn’t realized was that you can use colored lights to influence mood, and these are much more easily changed than paint on a wall. But, where do you start? And does this mean you have to live in a bedroom with blue-colored lights all the time ? False!

Celebrate life every day. Every day is a holiday!

Today we’re celebrating Mood-Lites from the Mood Factory. Their mission is simple – they’re out to improve moods.

Our unique wellness products at the Mood-Factory are based on research about how sensory experiences influence moods. Experts in the field of Aroma-chology, colors, psychology, nutrition, and more were used to develop this exclusive line of products.

New York Magazine has called Mood-Lites a “Must Have”, but I’d say these fall into the realm of “so cool, you just gotta check them out for yourself.” These are perfect for individuals to purchase for themselves or give as gifts (for any age range, kids to adults). They are also great for retailers like spas or salons to use in their spaces to enhance an atmosphere. Their website uses a phrase I want to borrow because it’s so spot-on: “these products are unique gifts of wellness.” The colors that surround you will affect your mood, so use color to create mood. And man, “mood” is a funny word if you say it enough!

My personal experience with Mood-Lites aka my Mood-Lites review:

I received the Metropolitan Starter kit to review. What the kit has is a beautiful chrome and glass touch lamp with one of each Mood Lite so you can try them all. At first I wasn’t sure they they would include a lamp, or if it would be anything special. I realized two things about this lamp: a touch lamp is like magic and you don’t have to be five years old to love it, this particular lamp gives you the perfect way to display and utilize the Mood Lite lightbulbs. It gives a great focus area for the color. I put it on my desk, in a prime position next to my monitor (a few inches back) and I love the way I can very easily pop in a new Mood Lite to enhance whatever mood I’m trying to harness. It glows beautifully.

Every lightbulb is packaged super securely, with ventilation and also consideration for the packaging to be stylish. Again, these make great presents. The box for the Metropolitan Starter kit is colorful and great – I can’t imagine anyone getting this and not being intrigued.

The only issue I have is that the theme for my bedroom is not very contemporary or modern like the lamp. But I really love it anyway – go figure. Because the main part of the lamp is white, frosted glass I am considering taking an off-white can of spray paint and a piece of lace, to put a subtle lace pattern painted on it. While you certainly could just buy the Mood-Lites in colors you want, I think this kit is not only great for gift-giving, but to try one of every color. I didn’t want to put the Mood-Lites into the lamps I already had, so this is kind of a bargain if you were going to try and buy a new lamp, anyway. I can see a five year old loving this as a birthday gift as much as a college graduate would love it to decorate a new apartment. (You could even use Mood-Lites in your bathroom to create super luxurious and relaxing bath times.)

I am very pleased with Mood-Lites. Do Mood-Lites work? Even though I was dead tired last night, I put the orange “Energy” light on and I was able to then stay up later than previous nights. I’d say these are definitely worth a try, and are, indeed influential. As someone who has taken several psychology classes I believe in the unconscious power of color on our minds.

Mood-Lites target depression aka how to improve mood naturally:

Kathryn Goetzke White is the woman who created Mood-Lites, and as a depression survivor she has also begun a non-profit organization for depression called iFred (the International Foundation for Research and Education on Depression – www.depression.org ). iFred works to encourage the research on the mental illness of depression whiel also making it a topic more acceptable to talk about. You can’t ignore depression. As someone who is also a depression survivor, I applaud her for finding something she cares about to do with her life and to help others. Sometimes with this disease you get caught up in your own little world and forget so many other’s are enduring the same sorts of things. I was surprised to read that The National World Health Organization says that the 2nd leading worldwide killer by 2020 will be depression. Again, you can’t ignore it. And that means that products to help your mood are more important than ever. You should treat your emotional well-being as carefully as you treat your physical well-being. Be careful with yourself, and be good to yourself. And I do think that one way to be good to yourself is to look into products like Mood-Lites, because they do help affect your mood to become more positive.

Celebs love Mood-Lites:

Hilary Duff: “I love them (Mood-lites). Serenity is my favorite Mood-lite.”

Hayden Panettiere: “Wow! I love these! I love them all!! My favorite? Serenity is my favorite color. Passion is another one. I am a very passionate person!”

Kristen Bell: “I like the Happy Mood-lite. Yellow.”

Fergie: “Get ur Mood on – cool! I love these. I like the blues best. Ooh, Serenity is my favorite!”

Your daily challenge from the She’s Smart blog:

Recognize your emotional health as being important, and write down a few ways you can help it. Exercise is one great way to cause endorphins (which trigger a mood boost). Consider what will work for you, and maybe try some things you’re skeptical about. If you don’t want to commit to buying new paint for your room, try utilizing certain colors wherever you can – like in new clothing or your computer wallpaper or screen saver. Mood-Lites are a great, affordable way to also use the power of color.
