Going out of

Shopcat is FAMOUS. Yup. She’s rocking out to Lady Gaga and wearing Dior sunglasses right now. …Or maybe she’s sleeping. But on the shirt I wanted to wear! To disturb her would mean certain death, so she’s won this round… and she also got something great in the mail today, too! Fanmail? Nah. But the people at The Nutro Company took notice of Shopcat and her unmistakable flair, and generously suggested that Shopcat sample their Nutro Natural Choice Cat Food with Ideal Nutrient Balance. And not just that, another lucky cat who has a ShesSmart.com reader for a pal will also receive some.

Going out of your way to buy a special kind of cat food? I would wholeheartedly recommend this.

Yummy, apparently!

Today we received the packaged in the mail. You can tell that this is a company that really embraces the fun about animals, because the packaged MEOWED! When we opened the box, inside was a smaller box with air holes and a message stat ... Read More

‘Making Rounds with Oscar’ Book Review & Giveaway

making the rounds with oscar

A therapeutic book on death, dying, and one almighty cat.

I’ve just loaded the above picture into this post, and who should appropriately appear? Shopcat. Of course, she didn’t. That’s not her way. Instead, I felt the  soft brush of fur against my leg, as she moved about in the shadows under my desk. And just like that…I was convinced cats were psychic!!!  …Kidding. Kidding. Even after reading “Making Rounds with Oscar” I am not “convinced” that cats are “psychic”. And to be fair, that is not the premise of this book. Not at all. It’s what lured me in, but it’s not what kept me turning the pages.

I was sent a copy of “Making Rounds with Oscar – The Extraordinary Gift of an Ordinary Cat” authored by David Dosa M.D., and as an obvious lover of cats, I — well, quite honestly I’ve lost my train of thought because I went off to play with Shopcat! It wasn’t a “need” to do at this moment, but I think that taking the advice of this book is important. And at its core, this book talks about the curative power of animals – cats in particular. And after I’ve played with Shopcat, freed my min ... Read More

What Do You Wish People Knew About Your Job?

“I just wish more people knew…” ShesSmart.com asked, people from all over answered.

When you have knowledge, you can improve your work/shopping/life experiences! So we went and asked a dentist how to improve our dentist visit, and then we went and asked an experienced nail tech her professional secret to smoother cuticles. A librarian told us what really upsets her, and an insurance salesman gave us invaluable advice!

Glamor V-Day Icon: Jessica Rabbit

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

jessica rabbit style

If ya wanna knock ‘em dead on Valentine’s Day may I suggest a style icon to emulate? Jessica Rabbit.  They key here is NOT in re-creating her exact look, because elbow-length gloves, purple eyeshadow, and eyebrows THAT thinly plucked are just not called for. But Jessica Rabbit is often named as one of the sexiest cartoons for a reason. She’s a pin-up girl, a femme fatale, a… weirdly appealing cartoon to many!

To capture the Jessica Rabbit spirit for a special night out, I suggest a long red dress, hot rollers in your hair to curl it (think: Veronica Lake), matte red lip stick and lots of black mascara with little other makeup other than a hint of blush for a ‘naughty’ flush, red jewelry whether it’s rubies or red crystals, red heels, perfume dabbed behind the ears, and at the base of the front and back of your neck, and luxurious silky lotion all over your body. It’s all about a feeling of glamor and power. And you have it. You reign over your domain! Red is a power color. And it also brings about a feeling of energy to those who see it (whereas blue and green are calming colors). Be daring, go red. Be Jessica Rabbit. And if you feel you must, go buy a push-up bra.

Tiny Toons Spring into Fashion

babs bunny

My twitter friend Ilana, who obsesses over TV as much as I do, was talking about Tiny Toons recently. SURELY you must remember Tiny Toons as an after-school staple, do you not? Well, I guess it depends on your age…blah, blah. Well, she posted a link to a video that got me inspired to think the very rational question, how would you dress Babs the bunny today, in actual clothing? It’s more sensible than you think – it’s almost Spring (well, let me believe it is!) so the colors of yellow and purple are spot-on for the season.

As always, every item I pi ... Read More
